Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

According to Chopp, feminist theology portends the emancipatory transformation of Christianity by deliberately speaking of freedom from a position of marginality and plurality to those preserving divine-human, male-female, culture-nature dualisms. She argues that if Scripture is considered a prototype, rather than an archetype, women can proclaim, testify, and confess the Word as a means of resisting and transforming the socioeconomic order that represses and oppresses them. Chopp rejects feminist separatism but favors women-church as the foundation of a new Christian community that promotes solidarity and respects differences among its members. Hers is a difficult book, but it is recommended for academic libraries with religion and women's studies programs.
