5.0 out of 5 stars LIVING THE KARMINSKY EXPERIENCE!!!
Karminsky Experience Inc. doesn't deliver the traditional sound of the monotonous downtempo on the market today. Instead on the awesome "Power of Suggestion", Producers Dingle and Munn venture into the realm of sophisticated kitch as heard on the opening "Departures" and the groovey "A Little Happening", and top-notch tantra-grooves as heard on the amazing "Assignment...

1.0 out of 5 stars If your a fan of ESL be prepared for dissapointment
I'm a big fan of theivery and esl but this one just plain sucked it sounds like it was put together last minute not very creative in my opinion. The sound is not in keepng with the downtempo groove tradition of esl it sounds very international which is an ESL theme but without the grooves. In short, it sounds very amatuer, and sloppily put together with an un-ESL...

Instead on the awesome "Power of Suggestion", Producers Dingle and Munn venture into the realm of sophisticated kitch as heard on the opening "Departures" and the groovey "A Little Happening", and top-notch tantra-grooves as heard on the amazing "Assignment Istanbul", "Belly Disco", "Shall We Dance", "The Hip Shiek" and "The Wayward Camel." Karminsky Experience Inc. also delivers the ultra-lounge sound on tracks like "Introducing Louis Pachini", "The Power of Suggestion" and "Exploration". As always, the ESL record label brings us yet another amazing talent! This one comes Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Liking it more with every listen, January 22, 2005
This review is from: Power of Suggestion (Audio CD)
This is an excellent disc - it ranks up there with Arkestra One and Chris Joss (and of course anything by TC) as my favorite recent ESL releases. Ok, and Les Hommes - I'm rarely disappointed by anything from ESL. Anyway, while comparisons to Lemon Jelly, Ursula 1000, and 9 Lazy 9 may all apply to a certain degree, Karminsky has distinct sound all their own that is fun and gets ya movin' but has depth at the same time. Excellent beats, quality textures and atmosphere you can cut with a knife put these guys head and shoulders among most others that aspire to the same. Can't wait to see what they do next....

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh and Fantastic Music, January 2, 2004

I first heard clips of this album on iTunes and was immediately taken by the band. The songs range from intense beats like "Exploration" to more mellow ones like "Wayward Camel". The Karminsky Experience has a lot of range musically and I can't imagine too many people not enjoying this album. This album has a middle-eastern flavor mixed with great rythm and direction. Highly recommended for those who are seeking something fresh musically.

5.0 out of 5 stars "amateur?" hardly., July 20, 2004

I have to strenuously disagree with "a music fan." I've got nearly all the ESL releases, and when I heard that ESL was releasing this, I had several months to get excited at the prospect of hearing it. Happily, The Power of Suggestion has lived up to every one of my (high) expectations.

It's *chock-full* of grooves. It's true that Karminsky Experience leans in the kitchy direction (Hip Sheik) so the whole record is overall a bit more Ursula 1000 (or even Tipsy, minus the cartoon sound effects) than Thievery Corporation. But still, it's got the intense beats (Exploration is again a standout track here, as it has been since I first heard it on Thievery Corporation's contribution to the DJ Kicks series), creepy/interesting vox samples (The Power Of Suggestion), and central Asian funk grooves (Assignment Istanbul, Belly Disco). Seems like a lot of ground to cover, but Karminsky Experience gets you there in style.

So, these guys are complete pros, and fit in really well with the rest of the ESL catalogue. (Note that Shall We Dance is on the latest Thievery Corporation mix, The Outernational Sound.) I can't find anything wrong with this album except that it leaves me wishing for a reissue of earlier Karminisky Experience stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Girl LOVES the Power of Suggestion!!!, January 1, 2005
This review is from: Power of Suggestion (Audio CD)
Listening to the tracks while driving in my econo sized fuel-emission-friendly car...reminds me of all the nouveau car company adverts on the telly...

When I listen to The Power of Suggestion, I actually FEEL like I'm winding around corners and breaking at the lights...when perhaps it's reality and I AM the car advert...hopelessly, I feel that the Toyota Echo hasn't reached the Mitsubishi or Volks Wagon of new age advertsing.

All that bubbly girly jargon aside...I absolutely LOVE this album...addiction? YES...and I have had some friends in the passenger side admitting the SUGGESTION that the album would be fantastic for late night parties and dark metro-dripping clubs...

I may be fantastically new to Electronica...and maybe I'm still not sure of the genre or versatility of the music...but for a girl who's into Hello Kitty, polka dots in her bathroom, snow shoes and Ice Bugs...this cd ROCKS...in it's own transforming, transcending, transmitting way! I recommend you be patient and make it through all the tracks and enjoy with a glass of chardonnay!

4.0 out of 5 stars Karminsky Experience Inc. - The Power Of Suggestion, February 24, 2011
This review is from: Power of Suggestion (Audio CD)
ESL is rightly known for its outstanding downtempo output, and THE POWER OF SUGGESTION, a collection of singles put out by the mysterious Karminsky Experience Inc., is no different. "Departure" is a beautifully mellow piece with plenty of spunk and verve, possibly the best track on the album. "Assignment Istanbul" is all spy-movie moodiness, while "The Power of Suggestion" is a hypnotic seductress. "A Little Happening" is a short foray into a beat jazz cafe, while "The Wayward Camel" is an outstanding Arabic/electronic fusion. Some of the tracks are a bit lackluster, but it's not a major detraction from the album as a whole, especially when you have pumping tracks like "The Hip Sheik." Even the slower tracks like "Behind the Bamboo Curtain" have something to recommend them. My suggestion: definitely give this album a try.

This album is something new, original about experimental music field. The tones are rhythmic and relaxed at the same time, giving to all the tracks a "movie soundtrack" feeling. Suggested to everyone is in searching of something new, something original.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best album I've heard all year, October 26, 2007

I came across the track "Belly Disco" in an automated playlist on Rhapsody and was instantly entranced by it's seamless mix of down-tempo beats with sensual vocals that uncoils the song--swirling and flirting shamelessly. Imagine slowly kissing a stranger wearing opiate laced lipstick and you get the idea.

When I decided to grab the CD, I was totally thrilled to find that the tracks weave together into a journey; exotic and dreamy, the kind of diversion that reaches out and pulls you by the arm between the stalls of a foreign bazaar and leads you to mosques decorated with turquoise aural mosaics, 3 a.m. packed retro rave floors where you find yourself moving, sweating and laughing as a collective.

If you want a really great discovery and truly unique find, definitely give in to the Power of Suggestion and enjoy.

It's got a hip, early 60's feel to it - a cross between kitchy space-age lounge music and cool/cheesy soundtracks. It is fresh and fun, and well worth a listen.
