From the Inside Flap

A year on from Julia Morton’s tumultuous arrival at Fortress Athione, an uneasy truce is being maintained between Deva and her enemies, but the Protectorate never rests.

Believing himself destined to rule Waipara, Lord Mortain unleashes General Navarien upon the north in an attempt to bypass Julia’s guardianship of Deva’s western border.

Meanwhile, having rallied the scattered forces of a dead traitor behind him, Rowton of Ascol moves ahead with his plans by murdering the King. With Pergann dead, and the lords vying for his throne, it is up to Julia to ensure the right man for the job is chosen. She has the perfect one in mind, but it will take all her skill and diplomacy to achieve. When things begin to go wrong, Julia resorts to force, but sorcerers won’t be pushed and soon the lighting bolts fly again over Deva. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars A big improvement, April 15, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Power That Binds (Pt. II) (Paperback)
Perhaps responding to some of the negative feedback the first edition received, this book has been released by a new publisher as a second edition with a new cover and vastly improved editing. I liked the first story in the series very much, and this one is as good, but in a different way. Julia has settled down with Keverin and is learning what it is to be a noble lady betrothed to a Lord Protector, when King Pergann finally dies leaving Deva's throne empty. With no heir to follow him, there is a mad scramble among the lords to take the throne.

Worth a read, but read the first one before you get this. There are a lot of references to what happens in book one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good, but could be better, January 25, 2004

This review is from: The Power That Binds (Paperback)
In many ways, this book is better than the first; however, there are so many editing errors in this book that it is annoying to read. For example, using the word to instead of too, or now instead of know. I can only guess that they rushed to publish this book without having a technical writer review the book. A spellcheck program doesn't help with the errors this book contains.
