I ordered this Jeep from the actual Fisher Price site because Amazon did not yet have it and I needed it for my 3 year old's birthday. It is pretty awesome. I'm not sure how it compares to the Rubicon or the Barbie version but it does work on grass!

The "rockin' tunes" are funny to listen to (it is essentially an electric guitar solo). The volume adjustment works well and will play somewhat loud. I marked it as 5 star educational because my kid is learning how to drive and mess with the radio AND talk on the microphone at the same time.

At 2.5 MPH my kid who weighs 31 lbs wasn't quite heavy enough to get it through longer grass (longer as in hadn't mowed the lawn in 2 weeks). When there was another child in the jeep, it would go fine on the grass. When I took out the safety screw so he could go 5 MPH, he went through the longer grass by himself without spin-outs.

He's been riding it every day for about 30 minutes for almost a week now (mostly in the 5 MPH mode) and I haven't had to recharge the battery yet.

Setting it up was a breeze. Just needed a longer phillips head screwdriver. I used a drill with an extender for some of the screws and it went quick.

As a side note, it looks way cooler without the tribal art. We didn't put the tribal art (stickers) on the hood or the sides and it is shiny/glossy/metallic looking black.

This is the best. We had purchased a 6 volt battery operated tractor and it did not have enough power. I would recommend anything 12 volt. My grandson is 2 years old and he has a ball with this jeep. Goes on grass, dirt and pavement. Highly recommend it.

Yes, this is a costly number, for sure. Practically speaking, it is hard to spend over $250 for a toy for a toddler (especially in this tough economy). In our case, we have 4 year old twins. Initially, we wondered if buying one would cause a problem, but, there was no way we were going to takes leaps and bounds to buy two, when, let's face it- kids need to learn how to share. So, we assembled the power wheel and charged the battery before we presented the girls with this Dora ride. The colors are inviting and fun- the girls immediately took to it.

Now, I will say that once we took it outside and tried it out, it was a bit tough because we had a small drive way and the sidewalk to work with. If you have a large yard or are at a park when your child is learning to work this thing- it is definitely more ideal and easier for the child to learn to maneuver. Our kids, who are typically eager to learn, did get a bit down when they didn't immediately know how to drive the power wheel or constantly shift the gears (drive and reverse (again, working with a tight space) ). The amount of attention and effort they had to put into it lessened their interest in the power wheel. But, with time and practice (also very important lessons for kids) they got the swing of things and quickly excelled to shifting gears with ease and without our direction. Not sure if anyone else experienced this issue, but, I, myself found the wheel to be a bit tough to move to the left or right. I think with more usage that became less of an issue as the girls realized they had to put some effort and muscle into it, lol.

Overall, the money spent was worth the video we take of them riding and driving each other around.

This is a great product. I have two little boys, four and two years of age, and they can't get enough. The tires do not get any traction in the snow unless you modify them. I took a box of self drilling hex head roofing screws and added a little grip. This move worked out GREAT. It can get traction anywhere now.

My son will be turning three in 2 days. His party was today, so I gave him his gift today, the Tough Talking Jeep. He LOVES it. We have a large 2 acre fenced in yard that is ideal for him to drive that Jeep all around.

I have not taken it out of the slower 2.5 mph gear yet, as he is just learning to steer. I predict I will be able to shift it up soon. He is also learning to use the reverse still. He does get stuck occasionally in our dry grass currently. I am assuming that shifting the gear up will help with that.

I think his favorite 'extra' is the radio. He told me he had to turn his radio on before driving.

The Jeep might be durable mechanically, as other reviews seemed to sound like it will last awhile. I haven't had it long enough to say that. What I can say is that there is no way the grill on the front, the lights, or any of the other outside extra pieces are durable. I could easily pop them off. I am going to reinforce them with screws or glue or something. They definitely will not last that long otherwise.

One last thing, it takes two people to put this together. You will need one person to hold the pieces while the other screws or drills.

I am very glad I purchased this Jeep. I bought it at Wal-Mart because at the time, it was cheapest. Now, Amazon is much cheaper, so I'd certainly have chosen this route.

Update: 12/19/12
The very day after he got the Jeep, I moved it into 5 mph, which was easy to do with the screw driver. He has done fabulous with it in this speed. He no longer gets stuck in the grass, even when damp. The only time since that he has gotten stuck is in the gravel in our driveway, which is to be expected.
