This is the first book I've read by Barbara Taylor Bradford. Since she's a bestselling author, i suppose she must have written some books that are better than thise one, because there's no chance that a publisher would ever have published this book if it was written by an unknown author.

1.0 out of 5 stars Power of a Woman, December 21, 2006
This is the first book I've read by Barbara Taylor Bradford. Since she's a bestselling author, i suppose she must have written some books that are better than thise one, because there's no chance that a publisher would ever have published this book if it was written by an unknown author.

If you read on the back of the book, it's supposedly about a woman whose life is "turned into turmoil and despair" after "an unexpected act of violence" and that she "must go back to her own past and confront a relationship that has only brought her heartbreak". This act of violence takes place about two thirds into the book. Before that, there's just a long, tedious buildup, where absolutely nothing happens. The actual story of the book is the last 100 pages or so, and if you haven't already given up on the book by then, even they are completely uninteresting.

The book is one of the most tedious books I've ever read and it should never have been published. Don't waste your time and money on it and don't encourage the author and publisher by wasting your money on it.

I first fell in love with Barbara Taylor Bradford's work "A Woman of Substance." Then I proceeded to read everybook that came out and I was in awe. Power of a Woman is well written with the right mixture of Romance and Intelligence. To me "A Woman of Substance" was more powerful but BTB has shown that she is consistent and a great storyteller!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Unimaginative--Time Waster, January 2, 2001
By A Customer
I was very disappointed with this book. The characters were not very well developed and I felt that the author spent more time describing the character's opulent surroundings rather than put any thought into the plot or the characters' personalities. I kept thinking it would get better but it didn't.

1.0 out of 5 stars PURE CORN, September 4, 2000

This review is from: Power of a Woman (Audio Cassette)
This novel is a waste of time. I expected it to be more character-driven, with people I could like if there was more substance to them. I enjoyed the characters of Stephanie and her daughter from what few characterizations were given, but I still needed more. The people in this book are all ultra-rich which just makes the reader depressed that she/he isn't rich too. It seems like all the characters do in this novel is travel from country to country, which I cannot relate too. They also don't seem to change that much by the end of the book. The plot is boring and corny, with many other subplots popping up (like one of Stephanie's sons having an obsessive ex-girlfriend) that never get anywhere. The author also made it sound like Stephanie's daughter Chloe's father was going to be a big suprise in the end. It wasn't, just another rich guy. It would have been great if Bradford had made him someone who was average. Overall, I didn't like the book. It was too sappy and depth-deprived.

4.0 out of 5 stars A NICE BOOK FROM A VERY PROLIFIC AUTHOR, June 17, 2000
For lovers of romantic books, this is a very nice piece. Barbara Taylor Bradford is not a perfect author. But then nobody's perfect, so why would I want perfection from her? But let's go back to the subject: this book is about lost, hate, vingeance, and obviously, love and how we learn from these feelings.

The plot itself is not very cool. Barbara has a way of telling the story that sometimes make the reader wonder why he/she is still reading the book. But what's worth with her is exactly this: the up and downs of the book and the good sensation you get after reading her books.

Personally, I found this to be one of her best books. After reading it, you don't regret and, to the credit of Barbara - and to her cash also - you want to read another. Then you become a frequent reader of hers without realize it. Isn't that wonderful? :)

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love Dynasty, here is a book for you, February 28, 1999
By A Customer
Some people love to read novels set in upper class surroundings, portraying family dynamics. Here is a book for them. With this genre you cannot expect deep characters and a clever plot. The beauty of these books lies elsewhere, and many readers will find them shallow. I was impressed by the language, and Bradford is obviously a better writer than many bestseller authors.

I enjoyed the book, but it was not up to Ms. Bradford's usually good stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT care for what people have been saying!, February 13, 1999

This review is from: Power of a Woman (Hardcover)
Barbara Taylor Bradford is a wonderful writer. I do think she is the Danielle Steel of England. Here in Brazil she's a famous writer, and most of the women who reads her usually enjoy her books. I'm a boy who soon learned to read almost every kind of book. And romantic books are also in my shelves. POWER OF A WOMAN is an excelent book. One of Barbara's best ever. It has a fast plot (I started reading it and when I realized I was on page 100!), an interesting plot and, better, a good ending. Buy that book. You won't be disappointed. You couldn't be, when talking about Barbara Taylor Bradford. A master!
