I bought this battery as a backup battery for the Canon PowerShot SX40 HS camera and it fits the camera and charger just like the original. I've been known to shoot up to 2000 pictures a day, so a backup battery was a necessity. I would prefer AA batteries for ease of use while traveling, but that's more an issue with the camera design. At just $13 on sale, this was a cheap alternative to Canon's proprietary battery. It says the cell is made in Japan, and the rating on it (1200mAh) is higher than on the Canon battery that came with the camera (920mAh). I've recharged it twice so far and it takes less than 2 hours to charge, which is great. I was able to get 1000 pictures on one charge (including a few short test movies), which is about comparable to what I got out of the Canon battery on its first charge. Time will tell how it will hold up under repeated use, but so far it seems to work fine.

Update: After recharging a few times, the battery life seems to be more around 600 pictures. I got 1000 only out of the very first charge. This is consistent with the original Canon battery, which behaved exactly the same. So far I cannot see any difference in performance between the two batteries and they last for the same number of pictures. I was hoping that this one would last longer than the Canon battery due to its higher rating, but that does not appear to be the case.

At the time I was going to buy some spare batteries for my Canon SX40HS the Canon NB-10L batteries were around $60 each. These were rated at 920mAh. Imagine when I found the Power2000 batteries, rated at 1200mAh from Portable Guy for only $9.37 each. Three of them delivered to my door would cost me a little more than half the cost of the single Canon battery and they were supposedly higher capacity (by their 1200 mAh rating). I was very skeptical however I ordered them anyway. After using these for a couple months I have to say I am very pleasantly surprised if not shocked. I have never been able to shoot this many pictures with a single battery from a digital camera before and this camera is one big hunk of a camera. While I don't have a count of how many shots I get from this type of battery with this camera, suffice it to say I shot over 400 pictures at a wedding this weekend, about a 50% split between available light and flash and by the time I was finished shooting the battery indicator still showed a full charge. Bottom line is I went to the wedding with 3 fully charged Powercell2000 batteries and never made it past the first one. There's no question in my mind that this battery shots tons more pictures than the Canon NB-10L. I suppose the real question is how long this type of battery will hold up in the long run. Well, at a fifth the price, if it holds up for half as long it's still a much better deal. Couldn't be happier.

I own three of these "generic" brand NB-10L batteries. So far, so good with no problems. I purchased the new Canon SX40HS camera a few months ago and wanted a spare battery or two for long day trips that may keep me from my charger until later that night (or the next day or two). I'm sure the specific/actual Canon batteries are great, but for the costs, I just couldn't justify speading so much money on just an authentic canon battery. These work great and hold a charge just as long as the canon battey does. I haven't seen any scientific lab testing comparing the two brands, but my experience has been very positive.

I haven't seen any "generic" wall chargers out there yet, so I went ahead and purchased the authenic Canon battery charger for their NB-10L batteries......no problems with compatibility between the canon charger and the "generic" brand batteries. Everything works just fine. The generic brand charges up to "green" status just as quick as the authenic canon batteries does......within a few hours.

Unless someone can show me some conclusive data that the actual canon battery out-performs the "generic" brand by a large margin, I'm sticking with these for the future. Also, I won't beat myself up if I accidentially misplace or lose one of these $15 batteries.

After I got my SX40 camera, I quickly purchased one of these batteries even though Canon told me that it could damage the camera (because it isn't a Canon battery at 5 times the price). Well, that one worked so well that two weeks ago, I ordered two more. One will stay in my bag, one in the car, and one in my pocket if only I could remember to bring it.

The original proprietary Canon battery is 750Mah, and since I don't use video, I got about 350 shots per charge. Mind you that my camera is set for the highest resolution possible. This 1200Mah battery - the one I just received - has made it past 500 shots including some burst mode.

I don't know how long the battery will keep its charge just sitting. With the weather we've been having this "winter," my camera has not been idle for a single day. I can say that three days is about average for shooting, and you never know what that low battery indicator is going to come up. (And on the SX40, when it comes up, you only have ... 20 shots left - not much warning. For $10, I just can't see why anyone wouldn't have a spare ... or three!
