I typically eat a protein bar every morning on my way to the gym. Chocolate-peanut butter is one of my favorite flavors, so I was expecting to like the chocolate-peanut butter flavor of Power Bar's reduced sugar line. Quite honestly, I was disappointed with this product. It doesn't have a lot of flavor and the texture is on the dry and gummy side. I like that it has 22 grams of protein and very little sugar, but the fat content is a little too high. The Pure Protein brand makes a similar low sugar bar that has almost as much protein but many fewer calories (The Power Bar has 270 calories; the Pure Protein about 200, depending on the flavor). I also much prefer the flavor and texture of the Pure Protein bars. To add insult to injury, the smaller Pure Protein bars -- the ones with a similar protein content to this product -- also cost less.

I've liked other PowerBar high protein bars and used them when I've no time or opportunity for breakfast or lunch. However, I wouldn't recommend the reduced sugar variety. Rather than being less sweet, as I expected, they have a pronounced and cloying artificial sweetener taste.

The Reduced Sugar Chocolate Peanut Butter tastes great. Something of a honey undertone to it, which is a nice change. The nutrition profile is good, but I'm not happy with some of the ingredients (thus 4 stars rather than 5). Of course, different people look for different things, so judge for yourself. The ingredients are: PowerBar Trisource Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolate (from milk), Calcium Caseinate [From Milk] (from milk), Soy Protein Isolate, Maltitol Syrup, Chocolate Coating, Fractionated Palm Kernel Oil, Cocoa, Polydextrose, Sodium Caseinate (Milk) (from milk), Monodiglycerides, Soy Lecithin, Vanilla (Vanilla Planifolia) Extract, Sucralose), Glycerin, Peanuts, Flavors (Natural), Peanut Flour, Peanut Butter, Soy Lecithin, Salt, Oat Fiber, Almond Butter, Sucralose, Minerals:, Magnesium Oxide, Zinc Gluconate, Iron (Ferrous Fumarate), Copper Gluconate, Vitamins: Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), Vitamin E Acetate, Vitamin B3 (Niacin), Pantothenic Acid (Calcium Pantothenate), Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride), Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) (Thiamin Mononitrate), Folic Acid (Folate) Vitamin B12, Biotin (Vitamin H), Vitamin B12.

The nutrition info (per bar) is:

Total Fat 9 g
Saturated Fat 4 g
Cholesterol 5 mg
Sodium 290 mg (12%)
Total Carbohydrate 30 g

I bought these thinking they would be just as delicious as the regular (same) flavor but with less sugar. OMG!! Was I wrong, it tastes really bad!

I wasn't thrilled with the "reduced sugar" version, having used the regular kind several times. Wouldn't buy this kind again. As you chew, the only comparison I could draw was when as a kid, you'd sometimes get those wax lips and chew on them, and this bar has that texture. Like chewing on wax... It doesn't necessarily taste horrible, but I wouldn't call it enjoyable either. For my next order I went right back to the regular kind.

My kids like these, even though they know the bars are "reduced sugar." To me, that says a lot about the taste of the bars. As for me, I have at least one of these each day, usually for breakfast. One bar pretty much carries me to lunch. I feel good that I am avoiding the refined sugar of the other PowerBars. The bars are a bit too soft and chewy; they could use some nuts or other kind of crunchy ingredient.

Product is partly misleading in it's 'reduced sugar' labelling. To replace the lower sucrose sugar content it is jam packed with sugar alcohols. Sugar alcohols still affect blood sugar levels and provide calories, although only about half that of sucrose. Sugar has merely been replaced with sugar that has an extra hydrogen atom - big deal.

Don't have a lot of experience with protein bars, so I can't compare them against other brands, just thought they would taste a little better. Eat these between dinner and bedtime since going on dialysis in order to increase protein intake. Agree with other reviewers that they are edible, but not delicious.

i realize they are reduced sugar, which is nice, but they really don't taste so hot. the vanilla ones are much better (but have more sugar). I would recommend buying other bars too, so you don't have to eat these every time. They are sometimes hard to finish. (been eating these in place of p90x bars)
