My bedroom, on the second floor of an older home, is always cold in the winter and boiling in the summer. I wanted a heater that could safely supplement my forced air furnace. I researched space heaters and decided on this one. The Powerheat, which is rated for 1000 square feet, is more than I need to heat my bedroom. If I leave it on for about 20-30 minutes with the door to the other upstairs room open, it heats both rooms and the stairwell comfortably warm. If I keep the bedroom door closed, it heats my room in a matter of minutes. It is more efficient if I pull it away from the wall so it can draw air from behind. The Powerheat has an automatic thermostat, so when it reaches the set temperature, it turns off automatically. It also has a timer, so you can set it to go off automatically in 30 minutes to a couple of hours, after you are asleep under your down comforter (I think the time can be set to go off in up to 8 or 9 hours, but I haven't set it for more than 2 hours). My husband got another brand of heater that was cheaper for the basement. He paid only $80 for his, but you get what you pay for. My husband's heater only heats the space immediately around it and sometimes trips the breaker. My Powerheat can heat 2 rooms and the stairwell. My bedroom is about 16x16 and the other room is 17x12. I haven't measured the stairwell, but it has an old wooden door to outside. The Powerheat has NEVER has tripped the breaker even thought it can heat 2 rooms. My husband now wishes he had paid a little more and gotten the Powerheat. I got my Powerheat in October and have used it all winter thru April and a few days in May. It has been well worth the money so far.
