5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good
I've been using the PowerLung for about 3 weeks and I have noticed an increase in my vo2. I've always had my lungs go out before my legs when I ran, but now its starting to even out. I was suprised at how difficult it was the first time I tried it at the lowest level, but then again this high end athlete level version. Easy to clean, looks and feels durable, nothing you...

I hate to give a bad review but this thing is sub-standard equipment. It doesn't hold an adjustment between sets. The mechanical operation is never smooth. I get the idea of what it's suppose to do but it doesn't do it. Maybe I got a defective one.

I was suprised at how difficult it was the first time I tried it at the lowest level, but then again this high end athlete level version. Easy to clean, looks and feels durable, nothing you can't do achieve this greater lung capacity(trainging, swimming ect.) but I'd recommend this product to give you a little edge if you're looking for it.

Just opened PL today and after first use I fill good. I have the Sport(Blue) and it is harrrrd, so beware if your not into working out dont get (Blue). I have it on lowest settings and it is difficult to finish workout, but doable for swimmers. At any rate any swimmers out there looking to increase their lungs for Military course watch this post I will update on this thread after I finish the 4 week trial with PL. So far its outstanding, but we "will put it to the test". (300)

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not over estimate yourself - Need very strong lungs for this unit, May 11, 2010

I bought this unit thinking that my years in triathlon and muti-day moutain biking events would make me a candidate for the Sports model. I really overestimated my abilities. I have this unit set to the weakest inhale and exhale settings and I am suffering. I immediately ordered the medium intensity version instead. So I now complete my morning session with the Trainer version and my evening session with the Sport. And the good news is that I am improving and blowing my horn a lot better and for longer...

I definitely feel the difference. I heard about this product weeks before i bought it the reason i didn't buy it sooner was because of the price and I was scared it wouldn't work. I've now been using it for a few weeks and my running has improved and my breathing is so much different than before! just be careful to buy the sport series unless you are in a High level of Fitness or your gonna waste your money since the lowest level of the SPORT series is very tough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Train Harder. Train Better. Train Stronger., May 16, 2011

Using the Powerlung is like using any other piece of exercise equipment. You must be dedicated and start slow and controlled. Remember to follow the instructions and to contract and hold just you do when performing a curl. I leave this out to remind myself to do this... it's a challenge at first, once you start using it you feel great. You know your making strides to improve your performance.

I have had difficulty with breathing in heat or hiking, I find my outdoor, in full sun, activities to go smoother with the continued use of the Powerlung.

This level "Active Sport" is not for the beginner. I suggest a model that fits your lifestyle and migrate up to the higher levels to ensure you get a full workout and that you are able to see your gains.

This is a must have for anyone who wants to train harder, better and stronger.

Actually this is a rave review for the PowerLung "Trainer" model, but read on! Based on Amazon's product description and reviews of PowerLung "Sport" I purchased the item without doing further research. When the "Sport" model arrived, I, fortunately, didn't rip open the cellophane wrapper, but carefully read the box info. The "Sport" model is intended for people with fitness levels of "Navy Seals or professional athletes". Not me! I'm 71! Lungs compromised by childhood and exercise induced asthma and living with two heavy smokers for 15 years; however, I row a Concept2 erg about four hours per week and have a VO2 in excess of 50--high aerobic fitness level. Amazon was great about the return. Then I did the research and discovered that (FOOTSTOMPER) THERE ARE FOUR DIFFERENT POWERLUNG MODELS. Their difficulty levels have very little overlap. If you read many reviews you'll see that some folks are overwhelmed by the difficulty of the PowerLung model they've purchased. Like me, they bought the wrong model. After doing my homework, I chose the PowerLung "Trainer", have used it for about three weeks and couldn't be more pleased with it. The device is mostly plastic and probably produced for about $10, but it's priceless to me. I use it religiously two or three times each day. It has two analog controls and I have already moved from near the low resistance end to halfway up the difficulty scale. My lungs are completely clear for the first time in memory and yesterday I rowed a personal best interval workout on my Concept2. Caveat emptor: Amazon seems to have two different prices for the "Trainer" model today--$83 & $109. I paid $106 about three weeks ago. Amazon and PowerLung have a fantastic, if overpriced, product, but their descriptions fall far short. I hope this prods them to do better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerlung Sport, January 8, 2011

I've had the Powerlung Sport for about 5 days. Like it says on the box "...for top performance & elite athletes", this model is really hard to breath from, even on the lowest setting. I'm 195lbs and about 6ft tall, I do at least a hour of physical exercising 5 days a week like running, swimming, weight training, etc, and I still have some trouble. But I can feel myself getting better at it and I can see this building my lung capacity and strength, especially for underwater hockey. It comes with a clear plastic carrying case and the instructional mini DVD was useful. I would recommend this product to other serious athletes that are large, in shape, or think they already have strong lungs.

I had only been using the product for a week and i actually noticed pretty significant results. The price does seem a little much, but you can't get it any were else for cheaper, i looked for a while. I do a lot of swimming in the ocean and my body just seemed more confident when diving under waves or when going over the falls on a large wave. I'd recommend this product.
