At 30x optical plus I like Canon, this camera caught my attention
on July 27, 2014
I wanted a smaller camera with a long optical telephoto lense. At 30x optical plus I like Canon, this camera caught my attention. The reviews and price point met my requirements so I bought this for a cruise I took in July. While there are some issues I can live with, this camera takes very good pictures. At 30x optical, I was able to capture the craters on the moon and another cruise ship at night that didn't even show up in the picture with no zoom. The camera is larger than an Elph but it fits nicely in my cargo pants or suit coat pocket. It has no view finder which can be a problem on bright days but I have learned to live with it. Also, at 30x optical it can be difficult to get a good picture without a tripod or resting it on a firm surface. Sometimes I just took 5 or 6 pictures of the same subject in succession and one would usually come out ok. I would just delete the others. Thank goodness for digital photography. It also has a pop up flash that must be manually released. When I first started using the camera, I forgot about this and was wondering why the flash didn't fire. Now I actually like this feature because the camera does take good pictures in low light. Also when you want a filler flash to brighten faces with a strong back light, this seems to work fine. The camera has a lot of manual settings if your into that but so far I have just used it on auto and it has served me well. The only reason I give it 4 stars is the lack of a view finder and the difficulty of getting a focused pictured at 30x when held in your hands. I do like the camera and others have marveled at some of the 30x pictures I have taken. Other than my old Canon EOS camera, which was very large and bulky, this is the most versitile camera I have ever owned. I would not hesitate to recomend it.
