I think by now most logical people know that Beats has typically been a style over substance at a premium price company. Their last few devices starting with the Pill XL to the Studio Wireless to the Solo 2 and now the Powerbeats2 have significantly changed that approach with a much better emphasis on substance now. I have these 4 devices and could not be more pleased with them, I am glad to add the powerbeats2 to the collection.

At 200$ they are on the highest end of the sports Bluetooth spectrum but you do in fact get quite a rich and balanced sound for it with about as secure and light fit as I've seen in the category. I have frequently tried whatever this category offers up and have aggressively tried to replace my jaybird bluebud x's for which I personally struggle with to get a secure fit that stays once I get moving around at the gym. Sets like these are very fit dependent to operate well and fits are very subjective to each individual. For me, I didn't get the noise isolation of the bluebuds but then I didn't have to fiddle constantly to maintain the fit while at the gym like I do with the bluebuds as well. The Powerbeats2 sounded louder, fuller, more balanced while the bluebuds had much more emphasis at the lower frequencies. Both sound great though and have no other equal in this category. The audio differences while not negligible, are not day and night either. I thought more than the others, the powerbeats2 had a decent sound even when not securely fitted, sealed unlike my experience with the blueant pump hd.

I reserve the right to update my review.....

First I'll start by saying that these are the best earphones I've used for working out ever....when they actually worked. The fit is snug (regardless of ear size). Over the course of 2 weeks, I used these earphones 2-4 hours daily. I used them on the train, while on the eliptical (8hrs), running (20miles), and at the driving range. When they worked, sound was great (comparable to my Bose MIE2i), build quality is great.

One small caveat. Music sounds great, however I tried to use them while watching netflix at the gym, and the audio seems to not be in sync and is delayed. I personally don't think this is a Beats issue...and is more a Bluetooth downfall, but since these are the only bluetooth earphones/headphones I've had, I can not confirm that is the case.

About 10 days after using them, I noticed that the volume down button on the inline mic stopped working. I found this strange so I called Amazon support and called Beats support directly. I had a lengthy conversation with Beats. I was asked if I sweat during my workouts...which I answered yes. I asked if that was an issue, and they proceeded to say no, and that they are sweat resistant (not sure why they asked then). I un-paired the earphones with both my iPhone and iPad and re-paired them with my iPhone and PRESTO...the volume buttom started to work again.

2 days later, the volume up and down stopped working. I figured I had found the solution and just needed to re-pair them to my iphone. I turned off the earphones, un-paired from my phone and then tried to re-pair them...but to my surprise...I was unable to turn them back on. I've attempted to charge them, but haven't had any success getting them to turn on.

I was looking for a new set of gym headphones to replace my previous set, and was looking to get one that gave me more "oomph" in the music. I find a great music playlist really amps up my workout, and I tried various other headphones prior to Powerbeats2 because I had heard so many negative things about Beats by Dre (overpriced, tin-can sounding, $20 headphones sound better etc.)

I tried Bose's SIE2i headphones, but the volume was far too low and the music and sounds of the gym were still mixing in with the music. Not that I expected noise cancelling quality, but I needed something better.

I then returned those and grabbed a pair of Bose's $300 Bluetooth AE2w headphones. Much better sound (since it covered the entire ear), however now my ears were getting sweaty fast...even when just outside doing lawn work.

I decided to give Beats a try. A lot of the reviews for this updated version of their headphones were positive, with the majority of negative complaints being about lip-sync while watching videos via bluetooth (not my concern while at the gym)

Needless to say, I am more than happy. The sound quality is GREAT! I'm not audiophile, but the bass was felt and it wasn't overpowering. Got me moving during my workout.

The only negative would be when you choose to wear the strap around the back of your head as they show in their marketing materials. Expect the cord to start to stick to your skin a bit as you sweat, which becomes a bit annoying when you turn your head and feel the chord "stuck" to your skin... that's just physics folks.

Want to get around this? Do what I do, and wear the cord in front of you like a normal pear of headphones.
