My husband just bought his first boat so I picked this up for him knowing that he would never pick up a book for himself. He had the whole thing read cover to cover within the first week (I think it's the first book he's read cover to cover in years! :) He's commented numerous times how helpful the book has been- not only for handling his own boat, but learning about other types of boats in general as well.

This is a great book for first time boat owner or anyone who might operate your boat in my case I hadn't operated a boat for many years and wanted an easy to read with good illustrations of the basics and skills needed to operate any size boat. This book is one of the best I've seen to explain many of the terms and illustrate what and why the boat reacts to different conditions so anyone can have a basic understanding of boating. I would recommend this to anyone going out on a boat.

We bought this to loan out to friends of ours, so they can learn to handle a boat. Some of them want to help drive/dock the boat....others, we just prefer that they become a bit more familiar with boats and boating, given that certain friends of ours are "mainstays" on outings, so we figure it's important that they get some knowledge (just in case something happens to either of the co-captains, my husband and I).

This is loaded with good info and easy to understand explanations. If you're looking to learn yourself, or have someone you need/want to teach but don't want to do every bit in person, this book is a good option.

This is the perfect book for a boating newbie. It is formatted great, covering a good range of topics as they relate to piloting your vessel. The illustrations and writing really do a good job of getting the concepts across. Along with Chapman's Seamanship, it's a must-have in any boater's library.

This is my first book to read about powerboat handling. It is easy to read. Those technical principles are explained and illustrated by colour-pictures which I found them easy to understand. I found this book very interesting and useful...

Once again R. Sweet has put together an excellent and helpful book. I found it to be interesting and easy to read. I highly recomend it.
