The book goes into as much detail as most CPD's need. The reference ability does match powerbuilders on-line books. But as a secondary tool the book is useful.

After reading Oracle Unleashed I decided to try this book. I wasn't disapointed. Take advice and buy the book!

IF you want to own a book that looks impresive and does little to help you understand about Powerbuilder, then this is the book for you. There is more usless information in the book then one can create an object class for.

This is not a quick guide to PowerBuilder but it's a really best reference book out there.

Even for beginner's, this is a good book since learning curve for PowerBuilder is NOT steep.

Also it covers some database stuffs(as advantage of using PowerBuilder stems from easy integration with database through datawindows) that I found useful

This books is the latest in the PB Unleashed series. Much of the material is the same, which is to say, it's very good, very comprehensive and thorough. Additional attention to new PB 6 features given, including the distributed computing capabilities. Excellent comprehensive resource.

Very impressive. Up until I bought this, PB5 unleashed was my powerbuilder bible. This book has all the good stuff 5 had, and packs still more in, like info on Web PB, Internet, more on visual controls, even a little on PFC. This and a good PFC book (let me know if you find one!) are all a PB developer needs. (Well, and a book for your DBMS :-))

I have been in IT for 11+ years and recently started moving into the client-server area.This book was used as a college prescribed book for my last semester (not enough copies of the regular book were available) but was so bad, even the lecturer stopped using it. We were told to borrow object oriented powerbuilder books from the library instead and this book was removed from the curriculum.

If you are new to object-oriented programming, start with a vanilla C++ book, such as Jesse Liberty's C++ in 21 Days. With that under your belt, you can easily discern what is Powerbuilder and what is object-orientation in the Powerbuilder environment. This book walks through every feature in Powerbuilder, generally from the simplest or most basic, to the more obscure or less frequently used.
This is not an easy book, simply because it should be read in brief bursts, with the PB IDE to practice with. As with any other environment, you have to 'live in it' for a while to absorb it.
But I've owned almost every PB book recommended in these lists, and this is the best reference for PB overall.

I found the text to be useful. A good addition to the technical libarary. I used the text to study for the CPD.
