Customer Reviews

Very clear and bright, with plenty of depth of course.
David
It's always been a great playing guitar, just never used it live because of the crappy stock pickups.

I replaced the stock pickups on my epiphone dot studio with these "powered by lace" pickups, neck and bridge. The difference was night and day! The stock pups were muddy and tinny. These new pups are clear and balanced. I can actually tell the difference when I toggle between them! I can't compare them with other replacement pups, because I have not tried them, but I'm not ready to spend hundreds of dollars on a $300 dollar guitar. For what I paid for the pair of this set, I am VERY pleased!

This pickup is much better than the stock pickup in my Epiphone Les Paul. Which isn't saying much. I don't have much experience to compare it with, but it's great. The short of it: Epiphone pickups are notorious for being muddy, i.e. if you play more than one string at a time, you can't distinguish notes very well. This pickup took care of that, even with distortion on. It sounds great to me! Very clear and bright, with plenty of depth of course. For 25 bucks, it's a HUGE improvement on Epiphone's stock pickups.

i replaced the stock pickups of my guitar with these, and the difference was great. i got more than what i paid for it, more brilliance and the sustain was decent with cheap strings. it's not as good as an emg h4 or seymour-duncan jb but close enough to enjoy playing. would definitely recommend it..

I bought this pickup as a gamble. There isn't much info on the net about these pickups, but for the price it's worth it. They won't give you ear crushing distortion or blow you away with heavenly clean, but they will articulate every note you play. Stock pups tend to blend notes into a muddy mess, these won't. I installed them on a Dean Vendetta XM and they sound good. I think they would sound better in a heavier wood body. I have never changed a pickup on my own, but these were EASY!!! One wire to selector, one to ground...done. Better than stock but not on par with the big boys.

FYI: There is a problem with Amazon's listing of this product so you should email Blue Star after ordering.

I got this to toss into the bridge of a 80 dollar squire Strat I got just for moding i didn't expect this pup to be very good come on now its 20 bucks but dang this thing sounds crazy good you can put all the gain you want and still clear and mud free I mounted it slanted (Billie Joe Armstrong style) like the stock single coil so all in all its a very good pup for the $$$ it blows away the stock pups in some of my more expensive guitars as far as not being muddy with a lot of gain

While they are certainly not on the level of something like a Seymour Duncan, I will have to admit that these are really great pickups for the price. They are a medium-output pickup whit a nice thick and balanced tone. I had an old Epiphone Explorer sitting around and pulled the stock pick-ups out and slapped these in. It's always been a great playing guitar, just never used it live because of the crappy stock pickups. Talking about a massive improvement, these do the job nicely. Now it is a guitar that I wouldn't hesitate to use as a back-up or even throw it on for a song or two. For the price, you can't beat them. Check out the other Lace products that are more high-end. They really make excellent stuff.

Which is to say an economical humbucker that looks nice. No coil taps, but none were advertised so I won't complain. You get what you pay for. Good tone, nothing too rich but certainly clear and clean. Enjoy.

I purchased both the P.B.L. Bridge and Neck Humbucking pickups in May 2013. I will not comment at length about the tone, except to say that the straight signal without effects or tone knob circuit is much clearer and enjoyable than the stock pickups that came with my Epiphone Les Paul Studio, with S/N dated to 2007. I consider the price and quality to be perfectly in line with the Epiphone product- I bought my Studio used and unmodified.

Installation notes: if you are dropping these into a Les Paul and soldering the pickup leads to the volume knobs be aware that you will NOT have inches of extra wire to play with! I found that both neck and bridge had just enough cord to reach the appropriate terminals on their respective volume pots. The instructions on the included card suggest wiring both pickups to a three-way Les Paul toggle switch and running the output to a volume and tone knob- this is not stock configuration for a Les Paul, where normally the signal path goes from pickup to knobs to switch to output jack. The supplied trim is not molded to a Les Paul curved top, and the trim pieces do NOT come with the four ~.5" length self-tapping screws needed for each corner. Despite not readily fitting the curved top or coming with screws, if you slowly and sequentially tighten the pickup holders down you will find they conform to the Les Paul's curved top and the screw holes match. The trim rings around my pickups are now flush with the top and have not buckled or cracked because the plastic is elastic enough. Go slow and do not over-tighten, or you will strip the Phillips head on your old screws and possibly strip the wood threads on your guitar's body.
