Review

As a newbie, getting the PPG Bible is a no-brainer. From choosing equipment, your first solo, or the thought process in an emergency, this book has it all and more. Even for experienced pilots, just one tip from this book can save you a lot of hassle and money and pain. Free flight pilots transitioning to powered will find the Bible very valuable. Because the book is well organized by subject, PG pilots will be able to quickly find and brush up on subjects like airspace, engine maintenance, and an entire chapter dedicated to PG to PPG transition. Veteran PPG pilot Michael Purdy of World Talk Radio s Powered Paragliding Show summed up his read of the PPG Bible, I didn t know what I didn t know. Great job, Jeff, Dennis, and all those who contributed to this amazing work. --Phil Russman, Producer of "Powered Paragliding: Risk & Reward"

Wow, I just received my signed copy of the Powered Paragliding Bible from Jeff Goin. Jeff has been working on this for several years and, as a training manual for PPG and even PG pilots, it's a wealth of information, and it's very, very well done. Clearly Illustrated with loads of great ideas and tips. Kiting and launching skills are key to being successful with a PPG, and the information crosses directly to PG pilots as well. I give this book 2 hearty thumbs up. I just wish this book was available back when I started. I learned a bunch of things I never knew. In retrospect they make perfect sense. This is a must read for every PPG or wanna be PPG pilot. Even as an accused know it all, I found loads of useful information in it. --Stu Caruk, TowMeUp.com

Outstanding book. Absolutely the best written reference for PPG enthusiasts ever written! I already purchased three copies and gave them to my current students. In the future, I will include this book as a portion of my training curriculum. --Britton Shaw, Paramotor Instructor --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

About the Author

Jeff Goin has been flying since age 13, starting with gliders. He made it a career, ending up as a 737 Captain for a major airline. But when he discovered powered paragliding, everything changed and that became a burning passion. He founded the U.S. Powered Paragliding Association in 2001 and wrote the script to their top-selling Risk & Reward video, produced by Lite Touch Films. The Powered Paragliding Bible was a result of concern over the lack of a truly comprehensive training manual.

It is well written and easy to understand.

It's a very good starting point, and still very useful to someone like me who already knows a lot about PPG and has lots of aviation experience.

This new version has more info, so much so that I bought this version as well.

First, let me describe myself as it pertains to the sport so you know where I'm coming from with this review. I'm very much a novice. I just did my first solo flight a week prior to writing this review.
I was looking for a "text book" that I could reference and study as I hopefully progress. This book is just what I was hoping to find. I wasn't sure the sport had a big enough market for someone to put a book together like this but I'm pleased that it is. This book is very thorough and quite literally provides instruction from the ground up. In addition, the book is full of good pictures that just make it fun rather than a just a boring text.
I imagine that even an experienced pilot would benefit from this book and if instructors aren't issuing this book to their students, they should be.

I am a relatively new paramotor pilot with around 30 flights. I have found this book very helpful. It would have accelerated my training process if I had read it before. It exceeded my expectations on many fronts. The pictures, visuals and graphs are very useful. The content and chapters cover the questions/ problems faced by ppg pilots in flight life. Pages/content on meteorology is a bit shallow and there are some typos in various places, but overall a very useful, top notch book on ppg.

Complete review of all aspects of PPG. Very thin on meteorology but very thorough on all technical aspects. Has an interesting chapter for transitioning from paragliding to PPG. Don't expect to find information about brands and products, but about all the fundamental aspects to look for choosing your gear. Overall a very good bible for PPG.

Now, five years since my first solo flight, I have discovered a new appreciation of your work and truly admire the wonderful book you have given to me and the many others yet to follow. Words can't describe the respect I have for the body of work you have laid down. As you wrote and checked and re-checked each phase, page, description and graphic, I can only imagine your concern that someone would criticize or find flaws in your work. To the contrary, your book is by far the best written and graphically depicted manual I've ever accessed in my 50 plus years. As a custom home builder, I've read books from "how to", pour a footer, to "how to" build an entire home and not one book has ever come close to the clear and thorough way you write and teach. Without your first edition book, I would have never learned to fly, at least in PPG.

Flying a powered paraglider is so free and fun it can be contagious. After watching me and my pals fly all over northeast Ohio, my wife has decided to join us in the sky's. She just bought the second edition PPG Bible and is reading every word as she prepares for "her" first flight this spring.

Many thanks to Jeff Goin and his excellent work, the Powered Paragliding Bible.

I had the first edition, which is now used by my instructor in Germany. He said there was nothing available in Germany that came close to providing the amount of information in this book. He will be updating to the second edition soon.

The second edition adds more information to this evolving sport. It is presented in a clear, readable manner, with plenty of great color photographs. The author is very knowledgable and safety conscious, and stresses all the safety factors, both obvious and not so obvious. I often claim that I am the cheapest guy on the planet, and this book is one of the best investments I have made. The amount and accuracy of information in this book far exceeds the price.

I am a PPG pilot and a Commercial, Airline Transport, Glider Pilot.
I am also 72, and foot launch + trike flights.
The PPG Bible is truly a work of art and well to the point. Jeff Goin is a driving force behind the Powered paragliding sport.
The wealth of information is organized in a timley fashion & will worth the price.

This book is an absolute must read if you want to enter the sport of Paramotoring. It is well written and easy to understand. I cannot recommend it enough, and have talked with a lot of instructors and every credible one I have met recommends this book to their students.
About one of the reviewers here, I find it incredible that he does not recommend it. Looking into the background of this reviewer, Dell Schanze, I see that he has been fined by the FAA, the very entity that regulates aviation and ppg, that he has been convicted of lying to the authorities and allegedly prosecuted for child endangerment. He had a business that went bankrupt and left a lot of customers out in the cold with nothing to show for their hard earned money. Buying his equipment may doom the unsuspecting new pilot to equipment that may be useless once he finally decides he has made enough money and decides to move on to another unsuspecting crowd. Google the name Dell Schanze and come to your own conclusion. This should not be the forum for this but if Dell wants to use for his personal gain, please google his name and see who he really is. I would rather take my aviation advise from a pilot in good standing with the FAA like Jeff Goin, then a person who has had the entire coast of Oregon shut down to PPG due to his careless actions, and then been fined and reprimanded on many occasions as Dell has done.
Again this is a great book and being a part of the sport of ppg has been a blessing. Fly safe and welcome to the sport.
