The Best - You need it!,
By GHDave "Dave" (Boulder, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Powerex Battery charger w/8 2700 mAh Batteries (Electronics)
I've had one of these for more than a year. It's the best charger for NiMH's, which I use in everything except devices that are going to sit for a year, like smoke detectors or clock backup (a NiMH will lose about 30% of its charge per month just sitting). It's bad for batteries to be overcharged, so for devices that an odd number of batteries (like my FRS radios that use 3) the chargers that do only pairs are inadequate. The Maha also has superior charge circuitry that optimally charges each cell. It's better for the environment to use rechargeables than to throw away alkalines, and cheaper too! A 220 volt transformer is available from Maha if you're going to Europe.

Choosing between Maha chargers,

This review is from: Powerex Battery charger w/8 2700 mAh Batteries (Electronics)
I haven't bought one of these, so ignore my rating (though they do appear to be excellent). But I did find a description of the differences between the various Maha chargers at www.thomas-distributing.com:
The MH-C204F charges the batteries in pairs, has a discharge feature and charges at 500mA. The MH-C401FS charges batteries independently and charges the batteries twice as fast than the MH-C204F. The MH-C204W has a built-in adapter and the MH-C204W charges and discharges batteries faster than the MH-C204F. Note that the MH-C401FS doesn't have a discharge function. The "8AA25" numbers after the C401FS seem to represent the number and type of batteries included. There's a complete rundown of the differences between the chargers at the above website, but, unfortunately, Amazon doesn't want me to include URLs in the review.

Truly a Better Charger,
This review is from: Powerex Battery charger w/8 2700 mAh Batteries (Electronics)
I have owned this charger for about 2 months now, and definitely have to say that there is a real difference here. The fact that this charger has 4 independent cells allows it to charge each battery to the fullest. I actually notice a difference in my Canon 580EX flash with the batteries now more fully charged. The 2500 mAh PowerEx batteries just last so long I am tempted to not bring back-ups with me! Also, my 2000 mAh Sonys are much improved, especially over the Sony charger. I also have a NoMem charger, again far inferior. As a last point, the batteries come out cool, making me feel that they will last longer overall. Car charger is a nice final bonus.

I received one of these for Christmas 5 months ago and it's unbelievable how long these batteries hold a charge for. I use them in my digital camera which on average was going through a set of batteries at least once a month. Since Christmas I've only recharged these batteries once. I highly recommend these batteries and charger.

Great Customer Support,

I have had a Maha PowerEx charger that is identical to this model (only a different model number) for several years now. After dragging it all around North America, I finally had a problem with the adapter connection.
The people at Maha are great! They replaced my charger with a brand new model and since I'm going to Europe soon, gave me a great deal on a dual current adapter plug. Maha does not forget their customers after a sale. If you read the reviews on photo sites, you will see that their top choice of chargers is always the Maha brand. After using my Smart Charger for at least 5 years now, I wouldn't buy any other.

I've purchased 3 of these battery packs! One charge lasted 600+ pics on my Olympus SP-590UZ 26 megapixel. I LOVE these!

Best charger on the market,
This review is from: Powerex Battery charger w/8 2700 mAh Batteries (Electronics)
I've used other battery chargers with mixed results. This one charged everything I threw at it, from name brand rechargeables, to the no-name batteries found in my wireless mouse. Never a problem. I lost mine in a house fire a little over a year ago and since then have used 2 different Evilizer battery chargers, which made me realize just how spoiled I was with the PowerEx.

I've had the C401FS for over a year, using it with newer Powerex and older RadioShack batteries. It has performed beautifully with all. Even the old 1500mAh RadioShack NiMHs take a full charge every time. Unless you need the bells and whistles of the newer Maha models, you'll be very happy with this compact, reliable 4-channel charger.

D O A SLOW CHARGE DOESN'T WORK,

After hours of reading reviews I decided this was the battery charger for me.
I set it on slow charge and after 6 hours the batteries were not even warm. Just found a review yesterday and they had the same issue. I have read about top brand names that overheat and can actually melt or blast the batteries right out of the charger; These are the expensive, programmable units that take endless patience to use. Anyone know of a good charger for my 2700 mAh batteries?

This is the 2nd set I've bought and they are the best batteries as far as rapid charging and holding a charge. the other set lasted 3.5 yrs using them on a digital camera and radio at the ball park. I highly recommend this product.
