5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for inspiration, November 6, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Powerful Prayers (Hardcover)
Unlike most "religious" category books, this book lacks the preachy quality that causes most readers to not absorb the text. This book insightfully breaks down barriers between different religious beliefs and simply brings forth the universal belief in a higher power. The people that Larry King and Rabbi Katsof chose to interview are made more personable and are made more tangible through their everyday prayers, which are similar to ours, and their quest to be closer to God. This book would make a fabulous holiday gift that is sure to please a recipient of any religious background.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Prayer a Must Read, November 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Powerful Prayers (Hardcover)
Powerful Prayers is a Must Read Reading Powerful Prayers provides you amazingly simple examples of commuincating with God through personal everyday prayer. It opens the door to an otherwise complex arena of thought. The discussion between Larry King and Rabbi Katsof is sensitive and thought provoking. The interviews add incredible depth to the discussion. They also legitimize informal prayer, and the many different ways people have found to communicate with their respective spiritual beings. I recommend this book to everyone who is open to exlporing their individual communication with God. It is a must read. It has changed my entire understanding or paradigm in regards to my relationship with God outside of a house of worship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Powerful, September 23, 2002

This review is from: Powerful Prayers: Conversations on Faith, Hope, and the Human Spirit with Today's Most Provocative People (Paperback)
Mr. King delved into the foundation of Spirituality and Religion and made simple an otherwise complex and controversial issue. The book focuses on the individual and his or her communication with God, while setting aside religious beliefs. I would like to recommend to friends who are too formal about prayers and to those who maybe agnostic such as Larry King in his book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read, February 6, 2006

This review is from: Powerful Prayers: Conversations on Faith, Hope, and the Human Spirit with Today's Most Provocative People (Paperback)
This book is going on eight years old as I write this review, but I suppose it will always seem timely. Larry has quite a knack for just telling it like it is. As an admitted agnostic he has no agenda in passing along this delightful collection of tales and interviews with those who [mostly] have belief in God. And mind you, this is not a book on religion. True to its title, the book relates prayers - moments - that have moved others to prayer. In some instances it is the circumstance which catches your attention, and other times it is the prayer itself that provides the power. And Larry's personal asides are even more delightful.

All in all I was always interested in reading on to the next page, person, or prayer. This is an "un-fussy" book and a wonderful read.

I was greatly moved by reading this discussion between Larry King and Rabbi Katsof. It will help the novice prayer or the advanced grow in their relationship with G-d. It is fast paced ,funny, easy going. Hard to put down. It lifted me up and made me decide to become more real in my interactions with G-d. I highly reccomend it for anyone who wants to become closer to the Almighty.

4.0 out of 5 stars An inspiring aand humorous book about a cynics road to Prayer, October 15, 1998
By A Customer
I found Powerful Prayers to be a blend of spirituality and humour with just the right touch of sarcasm. The book tracks the road King,an agnostic, takes on his road to finding and, coming to terms with his own spirituality by using the vehicle of prayer. And his spiritual guide, Rabbi Katsof. Along the road King stops and asks celebrities, artists, writers, athletes, politicians and world leaders to share their views on spirituality as well as the use of prayer in their lives. The way King gathers information and runs back to duke it out with Katsof is highly amusing. All in all, the book is a great read for cynical beginners on the road to discovering the spiritual side to themselves, for people who have "inquiring minds" about the lives and thoughts of celebrities, and of course the already there, religious spiritualists just wanting to take in more information along with a good laugh. So go read it.It won't make your head spin, but, you will definitely walk away with something to think about.

5.0 out of 5 stars True dialogues on faith and inspiration ..., October 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Powerful Prayers (Hardcover)
are prevalent through every chapter of this wonderful and entertaining book. I can almost feel God laughing out loud and smiling with satisfaction that it is a proven fact: "everyone does it" --- pray, that is. Larry King has again managed to ask the questions (as well as get the answers) that are deeply personal and enriching. We all come out the better for it. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish! I can't wait for him to continue the dialogue. I definitely want more.

5.0 out of 5 stars HELPS IN THE SEARCH FOR G-D, April 27, 1999

Interviewing famous people on this subject sounds a little haimisher, but it works. While you would expect some of the characters interviewed to have limited attention spans, the book is interesting and thoughtful. Thank you Larry and your rebbe friend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impacting, Interesting, for the mind., January 12, 1999
By
This review is from: Powerful Prayers (Hardcover)
This books to me was more interesting than "powerful" only because I am on the journey intended for me. I feel a reader who is seeking a stronger relationship to prayer can view this books as "powerful". I would recommend this book to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, July 12, 2004
This review is from: Powerful Prayers: Conversations on Faith, Hope, and the Human Spirit with Today's Most Provocative People (Paperback)
This book will open your mind if you are agnostic, and it may make you angry if you are set in your conventional religious beliefs. This is not a politically correct book, and King takes some risks, but it is worth a good read whether you are spiritally inclined or somewhere in the middle.
