PowerGenix 5 Hour Fast Charger delivers an efficient charge at a great value. Charge your AA or AAA NiZn batteries in about five hours.
Charges to 80% in 3 hours trickle charges to full in 5 Hours.
Charges 2 or 4 AA or 2 AAA NiZn rechargeable batteries at a time (charge in pairs or all four). Features a built-in "switching" power supply which will automatically adjust to any voltage from 100-240VAC for international use. The PowerGenix Fast Charger is intended for use with eco-friendly NiZn batteries only.

PowerGenix has developed a high-energy density, high-cycle life and low-cost nickel-zinc (NiZn) battery ideal for applications that demand high discharge rate capabilities. The technology offers compelling performance advantages, most notably a 30% weight and size reduction coupled with higher power and superior low temperature discharge behavior. Two of the more prominent features of the PowerGenix NiZn battery are its small size and low internal resistance, which enables the delivery of significantly more power during periods of peak demand than a nickel-cadmium (NiCd) or nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery of comparable size. Although the design and construction of the cell is similar to NiCd, the higher voltage of PowerGenix's NiZn cell results in a 25% lower cell requirement in multi-cell packages, representing significant space and cost savings.
NOTE: These batteries cannot be recharged in a standard NiMh recharger. Please use a PowerGenix or other Nickel Zinc charger.

I bought these because of another review. I own many NiMH batteries and they charge to about 1.34 volts. I also own a bunch of digital cameras that say NiMH batteries will work but they don't. I get maybe 1-3 pictures then nothing, even though the voltage didn't drop. I thought my cameras were broken! I bought the charger and 8 batteries, charged them up and got about 1.7 volts. Put them in the cameras and haven't had to recharge them yet,it's been 2 weeks,and we have a new baby(lot's of pictures)! Love the NiZn for this application. My radios work fine with my old NiMH batteries, so I've had no need to try these higher voltage ones in them.

New Power Cells,

This is a new cell that has recently come available for people. It has more voltage so it will be supported in more devices than a NiMH cell that is at 1.25 or 1.3 volts. I have not used it enough for it to be drained because I have it in my flashlights.
They are brighter than the NiMH in my flashlights and the charger is very good about being compact however the charger is limited as it is only for NiZn batteries making it a uni-tasker which I do not like. I have yet to get a more functional charger that would do the work of this one and my NIMH cells.

These batteries are what I have been waiting for, something that doesn't have too low voltage like Ni-MH, or too low capacity like Ni-CD. Sure it may not replace a bunch of lithium batteries for a smoke detector to last like 10 years, but there are pretty good, especially for the price. Unfortunately, like most nickel based batteries, the self-discharge rate isn't the best out there, but you could live with it. They offer great capacity, voltage, price, and everything else. I definitely recommend shopping here for them, but only if you live here in the U.S.
