service problems,
By PA customer "SK" (Pittsburgh PA) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this item 6 months ago and have been waiting for parts for most of that time. There is no one to call and emails have gotten me nowhere. The log splitter came with one stud installed crookedly and I had to machine one hole to fit the incorrectly installed nut mount. Since then I have tried repeatedly to have a broken lever replaced with no luck. Service is a problem with this company.

Can split wood but a little underdesigned,
By R. Zed (Reno, NV) - See all my reviews Although the ads and instructions say the machine will work on a 20 amp circuit, the engine itself is 19.5 amps, and following the guidelines we have out here in Nevada (not the most stringent rules)to have 80% max load on the circuit, a 25 or 30 amp circuit is called for. That said, the power cord seems to be insufficient to carry this load with safety, and is too short. I had an electrician friend replace the cord with a much heftier and longer one. Similarly, the junction box next to the engine is made of plastic although it's in a place where a log could easily fall on it and crush it: a stronger metal box would be much better to cover it. Although heavy, this splitter can be ported easily as long as it's on a flat surface; the wheels are too close together to move it reliably over a rough surface (it falls over). That said, once plugged in (with my heavier cord) the machine could cut through 18" diameter, 18" long pinewood rounds with ease, and is fairly quiet. It had trouble as you'd expect with the really knotty wood that an awl can't penetrate. If you have very knotty wood you'll probably have to purchase a stronger machine. I'm still in the initial trail phase with this product, so I can't say much about reliability. Judging from the somewhat underdesigned components, I'm not sure I'd buy it again, but as I said, it's splitting my wood.

Save your money,
By This unit is sold on basis it will handle 12-18" logs 20" long. It won't. It will handle small limbs and logs that are very soft or loose grained. It will further reduce pieces that are already split but may be too large for your particular application. Any serious log it will just stop and retract with the log impaled on the wedge. The only full sized log it has handled so far was an insect eaten apple tree trunk. You will spend more time trying to find the one log it will handle and not just tossing out the occasional one that it won't. I found myself going out to buy a maul so I can reduce the logs in order to further process them on the new splitter. If that makes sense to you then go ahead and try one. However, once you get it, there is no provision for return if you are not satisfied.
