I've made better gains in 4 magazines of POWERLIFTINGUSA than my 10+ years of Muscle&Fitness & Flex. No more mindless rep after rep of the same exersizes only to show little (if any) gains for your efforts. This is a MUST for those fed up with the 230 page fitness mags with over 200 of them being advertisements being jamed down your throat (no pun intended). If you want to make real gains you can't argue with the methods that are tried & true by those who squat over 1000lbs & bench 800+. I'm pushing more weight than ever & my joint pains are gone now that I'm lifting correctly & not the M&F way. Best weightlifter magazine period. Buy it now.

Powerlifting USA magazine review,
By Steve Denison (Bakersfield, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Powerlifting USA (Magazine)
I've been subscribing to PLUSA since 1984, the same year I started powerlifting. It contains a wealth of information for the beginner to the elite lifter. Interesting strength articles, interviews with the champions of the sport, results from meets, and the list of upcoming contests. It also contains all the different powerlifting vendors for your equipment needs. Its a must to have this magazine for anyone into or starting out with powerlifting. Its the ORIGINAL mag!

Great mag with one exception,

This is a great magazine with the exception of articles written by Herb Glossberger, who seems to only write articles about the people at LA Lifting Club (where he works out). If you overlook that aspect, the mag is great. The knowledge that can be gained simply by reading the articles written by Louie Simmons and Dave Tate. Well worth it. It also cannot be purchased in your local magazine store.

The best powerlfting magazine on the market,
By
This review is from: Powerlifting USA (Magazine)
Powerlifting USA is the number one magazine for powerlifting news, training, and everything powerlifting-related. It features extensive meet results, interviews with top lifters and strength coaches as well as a number of regular columns.
The regular columns feature writers like Louie Simmons, Mario DiPasqual, Dave Tate, and other strength training legends. There is always the workout of the month to look forward to as well: each month an elite lifter shares his or her individual training routine and outlines a 12 week program that readers can follow and tailor to their own strength levels. Another thing I look forward to each month in PLUSA is the inevitable article or two dealing with the history of powerlifting, either by sharing/profiling specific legendary lifters or re-visiting a famous powerlifting competition of old. The issues always arrive on time and the customer service is excellent. This is a no-fluff magazine with little advertisements and printed in black and white. It is, by far my favorite mag and I am always excited when I recieve my copy each month.

NOT A COMPLETE POWERLIFTING PUBLICATION,
By Tonto Epstein (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Powerlifting USA (Magazine)
The magazine has always been OK. Not necessarily because it's a great publication, because it's not, but because it's the best one dedicated to powerlifting. I have to admit that when I peaked way back in the early and mid-80s, my appearances inside that publication were very gratifying and self-validating. With that being said, what I'm about to say I know with absolutely certainty is going to offend some people that don't care for candor. So fair warning, don't read on if you don't want to see it ... Half of the magazine should be features on anabolic steroids, human growth hormone, and everything else everybody took back then and still take. Basically, advice on how to correctly take drug cycles. It's completely disingenuous to disregard and pretend like competitive powerlifting would even exist without the drugs. For you novices out there, just know that every guy featured on every Powerlifting USA cover is a phony. Yes, they all train hard, every one of them. However, how they all achieved it is the result of far more than just training, diet and hard work. Yes, even the author of this review is guilty. This is not a sweeping generalization, this is the truth. In case anybody thinks I'm nuts that the magazine should give advice about drug cycles, you should be aware that the magazine "Muscle & Fitness" was not always a mainstream magazine. In the 70s and early 80s, that magazine gave drug advice. Really. Now it's morphed into the mainstream, with smiling steroid-invested guys and gals with gigantic fake breasts on the covers. But it used to be a hardcore bodybuilding magazine, just like Powerlifting USA purports to be a hardcore powerlifting magazine. Also, any nutritional ads in the magazine are just as phony, as are the purported buying tips regarding the plethora of overpriced supplements out there. Don't waste your money on those worthless products. But what are you going to do, promotion and advertising is all about the art of lying and deception. I strongly encourage everybody that powerlifts, and even people that don't, to rent or buy the GREAT documentary, "Bigger Stronger Faster." That's the real world of lifting right there. A real world that Powerlifting USA and the founder/publisher/editor Mr. Lambert tactfully evade. Powerlifting USA tactfully evaded reality when I was a competitive powerlifter, and still tactfully evades reality now.
