5.0 out of 5 stars Powerplant Technology
I have found this book since 1993 and curently it serves like a reference book for the courses that i teach in the subject of "Electrical Power Plants" in the "Facultad De Ingenieria Mecanica,Electrica,Electronica" of the "Universidad de Guanajuato" i have found the book content very understandable and with the theoretical deepness enough...

1.0 out of 5 stars outdated
I believe it used to be a good book -- in the 1970's when it originally was written. although printed in 2002 it hadn't been updated. Old b/w pictures of bad quality, no single reference to use of computers (like EES, Matlab) to use for powerplant design etc. All examples in the book are easy when you use EES or another software. The fact that makes them hard is that it...

The fact that makes them hard is that it is all in English units and when you calculate by hand (calculator). It really should get an update... this is the 21st century and this is one of the most expensive textbooks I ever bought. I also suspect many of the practical ideas are dated. There is some reference to "modern technology" (i.e. natural draft cooling towers) that "will be dominant in the 80's" :-) and I really believe all reference to newer technology, their risks and opportunities is based on the knowledge of the 1970's. With that completely obsolete.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a newer book of the 21st century that takes advantage of computers and other new technology.

Again, this sure was a good book - in the 1970's.

I have found this book since 1993 and curently it serves like a reference book for the courses that i teach in the subject of "Electrical Power Plants" in the "Facultad De Ingenieria Mecanica,Electrica,Electronica" of the "Universidad de Guanajuato" i have found the book content very understandable and with the theoretical deepness enough to take the aknowledgement of the thermal proceses for the electrical generation power plants additionaly, it tooks lightly the nuclear power plants technology and the renewable energy sources and the technology necesary to aproach them. The book gives a general sight for the college students involved in the energy areas of mechanical and electrical engineering. I strongly recomend it.

I'm currently using this text as a main refence book in my teaching labor in Facultad de Ingenieria , Mecanica , Electrica y Electronica 'de la Universidad de Guanajuato,Mexico, from at least 5 years ago. This is a very complete book to see a global idea of the power station technology, for fossil and nuclear power plants, including the thermodinamical basis, and it has too a very good information on non- conventional energy sources and its hardness technology.i recomennded very entusiatically for the people who wants to know about the energy bisness

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst engineering book ever to date, November 14, 2011
This review is from: Powerplant Technology (Paperback)
I myself am from UW Madison where unfortunately the author of this book is a faculty of. This book is poor in content, lacks examples and is not much worth of a technical script. The english is poor and contains a lot of errors. Authors from this university have some great books but this one is really low quality.

This seems like a great resource (I have not read it completely) but, as pointed out by others, it is simply a photocopy of the hardcover. What kills me is the exorbitant price. A book like this usually costs less that $75. I was shocked to see the soft cover when it arrived.
