Review

My first vampire book, January 8, 2011
By Dallas
This review is from: Powers (Paperback)
I was never a book reader until I read my first vampire book by Elaine Waldron.
I was so enthralled in this book and the story I could not put it down Loved it
Loved it. I could not wait to read the second one.

From the Author

I have always been fascinated by the supernatural, as well as science fiction and horror. However, to me, the vampire stands out to be the most compelling, the most intriguing, and the most extraordinary of all the fictional monsters. While I love the Twilight series, True Blood, On Being Human, etc., Frank Langella's roll as Dracula is my favorite one of them all. It is out of this fascination and love of the vampire that I have created Powers, my own vampire series. Yes, it takes place in the Pacific Northwest. However, it just so happens that I live in the Pacific Northwest. Therefore, I see no reason not to use it for my novels, as well.
I hope that my readers will enjoy. Elaine Waldron

I have never written a book review before, but this was a VERY good book that keeps the hair standing up on the back of your neck from beginning to end. If you want to be scared, and you enjoy reading about vampires...get this book!

WOW, what a read!!! I couldn't put it down. The characters are intense and powerful and I can't wait to find out more. The book has surprise after surprise and is so packed with excitement.
Being a mom of three little ones I need to escape into a great book every so often and this novel definately provided that fun and intense escape away from reality.
Thanks- Elaina for writing such a fun piece of work! I can't wait to drive into the second book in the series. My daughter brought it to her Junior High Honors reading class and I still haven't got it back yet. I'm sure all the kids are passing it enjoying those vampires just as much as I did!

After the death of her husband in an industrial accident at an oil company in Texas, 22-year-old Amber Daziel buys a cabin in the woods in a remote part of Washington state. There, she hopes to find the solitude, but a string of gruesome murders in the region have Amber doubting the move. The locals in the small community are curious about the newcomer and befriend Amber one by one, making her feel safer and less alone than she has been since her husband's death.

Two of the locals are interested in Amber as more than just friends. Paul is a handsome man who runs the area's only grocery store. Dorian is the mysterious, sexy owner of the cabin nearest Amber's. It is Amber and Paul who slowly develop a relationship, only Dorian--who is actually a vampire--is never more that a step away and watching with jealousy. See, Dorian, in all of his 300 years, has never felt a stronger connection to a woman that he has to Amber. He is determined to change her into a vampire so she can become his mate, but he wants her to do it willingly. But with all the trouble the not-so-peaceful vampires are causing in the area, Dorian's cover is threatened and he many not have the time he needs for Amber to come to him on her own.

Waldon's vampire world is fascinating. Her vampires shape-shift into ravens and they can brew up storms and lightening strikes. They take pills that ease their sun-sensitivity and allow them to move about during the day. They are not cold to the touch and when they are feeding, they have enough self-control to pull away before killing their victims.

Powers is a page-turning read that has a little of everything: romance, mystery, paranormal elements, and action. The colorful cast of minor characters makes the plot shine and makes the reader feel like they are part of the small community in Washington.

New to Kindle I saw a prolific author and it all looked interesting and cheap so I bought a few of the author's novels. The plot in this is interesting but honestly it lacks any lustre. We are told everything in detail and it's very neat and tidy but you never connect to the characters. I bit the bullet and kept reading, it wasn't bad but it was just ok and I am wishing I hadn't bought the series.

I've only read one vampire book in my life and that was Salem's Lot and it was OK. I am really not into vampires but I really like this book because of the closness of family and friends. After reading this one I had to go on and read the next three and really enjoyed them all. I found them funny, touching, misterous.
