5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift, August 31, 2005

Great gift and conversation piece.
Pros: Small desktop device that catches the attention of everyone passing by. A fun challenge for the non-computer/math person.
Cons: It is sometimes difficult to read the time in low light as the positions of the LEDS are hard to identify (the illuminated LEDs are easily seen.) It could use a backup battery (although setting the time is easy)

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Gift, December 24, 2004
This review is from: Powers of Two Clock: Crystal Blue and Chrome Version (Toy)
I've seen this clock on display at the Discovery Channel Store and at first it looks like a little box with flashing lights. A sales associate explained to me how to read the clock and it actually makes sense. It's a perfect gift for someone who likes unusual things or for a computer geek. The Discovery Store use to sell this same model, but it doesn't sell it anymore so Amazon is the only place to get this model.

5.0 out of 5 stars True binary mode, March 10, 2008
This review is from: Powers of Two Clock: Crystal Blue and Chrome Version (Toy)
This is a great product for computer science students or CS geeks in general. Note that it has a "true" binary mode where each row is used to represent hours, minutes and seconds (top row is ignored). The alternative mode uses vertical binary read-outs to represent individual digits of a traditional digital clock = lame. Other clocks only have this lame mode, so beware!

My girlfriend immediately (well, pretty quickly) picked up the binary system with this clock and now is eager to tell me the time, saying aloud "1, 2, 4, 8, 16... 16 + 2 + 1... it's 19 after the hour!" Very cute :)

It works in 12 hour and 24 hour mode. It can also work in sideways arrangement. The lights are really bright and they look cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty neat!, May 26, 2011

I bought this for my math dork husband per his request. We plugged it in and he easily set it, but I'll admit that I had to look up instructions on how to read it. However, the learning curve is pretty short because now it just takes a glance for me to figure it out. As a bonus, we amuse ourselves by "seeing" different shapes as the lights change. As other customers noted, it is super bright. We have a pet hedgehog (who is nocturnal) and we ended up moving it so the room wouldn't be as lit for her. It's now on the other side of our rather large den, but even with my non-stellar eyesight, I can easily tell the time. We are very happy with this clock!

I love numbers! The moment I saw this product, I fell in love with it!
It made me remember and appreciate the beauty of applied math in daily living. It helped me do simple mental math exercises everyday. The blue light is cool to the eyes and seem so relaxing for me.
I wish there is a larger version of this clock. I'd definitely want a larger one.

I was worried about this taking up too much room on the desktop, and almost payed double so that I could get a wall mounted one because of it, but as it turns out, it's really rather small. Big enough to read, but small enough to stay out of the way and not consume your desktop. The packaging looks a little bleh, but the product itself is nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for any tech geek, August 5, 2011

I purchased this after seeing one on my coworkers desk. It is a nice clock, well made, very easy to set up. The LEDs are rather bright, even though you can dim them, It may be too bright to use in a bedroom. It's always fun when people ask, "That's interesting, What is It?". It's a perfect gift for any tech geek and once you figure it out, it's easy to read.
