Just read a little and implemented stuff from this book in real world situation. There was a need to extract user ids from SQL Server and then extract the e-mail addresses for the users from Active Directory. I am a SQL Server DBA and had no clue how to interact with AD and this book helped me. I created a PowerShell function with two parameters, Server Name and Database. The function then connected to the appropriate server/database and extracted the userids (using embedded SQL), then called another function to get information from AD, passing the userids.

I am a beginner in Powershell and have read only few pages from the book. As for now I have a 5 star rating. It remains to be seen if it will be the same after few months !

I also purchased from Manning the "Windows Powershell in Action - second edition". This is not yet released and is in MEAP ([...]). Great book as well. I think I am now a PowerShell convert!
