I had wrote a rather negative review a couple weeks ago, I re-read it, thought it was too negative and then didn't post it. Glad I waited. This is one of those pieces of exercise equipment you're probably either love or hate. There's a YouTube vid that demos this. Watch it for sure before deciding. If you plan to put this on a carpeted floor, what I had planned originally, forget it. It will tip over in the up position with as little as 50 pounds of weights. It's fine and stable in the down postion, but then it takes up a lot of floor space.
Does it work? Yes! If you're getting a little long in the tooth like I am, I'm a bit spooked balancing the old barbell. With this device, that worry is totally gone. It works well for front squats, dead lifts, shrugs, bent over rows, etc., an odd but useful bicep curl and it gives you the confidence to work to failure and not worry the weight will slip, the pivot arm allows for safely lowering the weight. Not for everyone, but I moved it to the bathroom where on a tile floor it is stable in the vertical position as long as you don't go nuts and put too much weight on it. This isn't meant to replace a more beefy home gym (I have that in a spare bedroom) but if you still want do the harder exercises that involve lifting relatively serious weight, this might be a solution that makes it a bit easier and safer for us guys getting older. ;-)
