5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, Superbly Crafted Machine
Customer Video Review     Length:: 2:09 Mins
This is a really sturdy piece of equipment. We picked the yellow and it looks very sharp in our garage gym. The finish is really nice and most importantly, the metal was machined for a perfect fit. The instructions say that it is a two-man installation project but I did it by myself with ease in a few hours.

My only criticism...

3.0 out of 5 stars Defective Item
Holes were drilled on the wrong side of the top mounting bar for the lat tower attachment. Had to have it custom drilled just to get the lat tower on the rack. Very disappointed considering the quality that power tec company is suppose to have.

The instructions say that it is a two-man installation project but I did it by myself with ease in a few hours.

My only criticism involves several secondary features. First, I prefer a straight pull up bar instead of the curved handles that protrude from the front of the rack. Next, I believe that the bar-dip bars are at too wide of an angle for most people. I still rate this product 5 stars for the intended purpose of bench pressing, squats and other heavy lifting exercises that my kid and his friends can do safely inside this sharp-looking piece of equipment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good rack, but here are a few things to keep in mind...., March 24, 2011
This review is from: Powertec WB-PR10 Workbench Power Rack (Yellow) (Sports)
I bought this rack from Amazon a little over a month ago and overall I am very happy with it. I do heavy powerlifting, and due to my schedule, lifting at home has become much more convenient. I have been slowly buying the equipment I need for setting up my home gym, and this was the last thing I needed to get things going at the house.
The rack went together easily, all parts fit well - just be careful not to over tighten the bolts and bend the metal. I bought this rack to allow me to do max-effort workouts without having to have a spotter, and the spot bars work great; they fit perfect and seem to be very strong. The bar dip and pull-up accessories are really nice extras, and they are worth the extra money that the rack cost to have it.

The only three negative things I can say about the rack are this;
1}The width of the rack can be a bit inconvenient when racking your bar back on the supports; you only have a couple of inches on each side of the bar before the inside collar -(it's where the weights slide on to the bar and it stops the weights from going any further. That is probably not the right name for what I'm describing, but I couldnt find any specific name for it:)catches on the lift-off hooks. This can be annoying when you are racking the bar and you are already pretty fatigued; especially when finishing up a set of heavy squats and you are waddling up to rack it, and you end up having to side-step an inch or two to rack the bar - this can cause an injury if you are not careful. I'm used to it now, but had I known in advance that this would be an issue, I would have purchased a narrower rack.

2} This is a minor issue that I am going to correct myself: The rack could use a support bar on the top in the middle so power-bands and chains could be used more effectively. You can still hang chains and bands off of the top bars on the side, but it really does not work all that well.

3} The last thing that should be mentioned is that the hloe placement for the lift-off hooks and spotter bars are 3" apart. For serious training, it would be better to have 1" gaps between the holes, so you can have more range to work in. I've found ways to work around this, but it may be something to consider if you are looking for a rack.

In closing, for the price, I like the rack in spite of the negatives I wrote. Nothing is perfect, but if you are serious about lifting - and you probably are if you are buying a rack, these are things to consider.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality rack, January 13, 2011

Ive been training at commercial gyms for 6 years and just recently finished my homegym. I was unable to find a powerlifting friendly gym near my home, so my only option was to build my own. I was really hesitant to purchase this rack, lots of thoughts going through my mind, will it hold the weight? Will it last? Let me be the one to tell you..this rack is a solid piece of equipment! Ive loaded 500 lbs on the bar, and im confident it will hold 1000lbs. It's not top of the line by any means, but for it's price it sure is a good deal. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a multi purpose rack under $500!

This is a very solid power rack. The bright yellow looks nice. The rack arrived in two packages and in undamaged condition. Paint on the unit is perfect, no chips, etc. Been using it for several weeks and works great. I assembled the unit by myself in about an hour. Lots of parts but instructions are adequate. Only potential downside was that the unit put off a paint type odor at first that is just now going away. I haven't used the pull up or dip attachments enough to comment yet, but they both feel stable enough in testing. This unit was definitely worth the 449.00 I paid for it.

Nice solid piece of equipment at a great price. Not quite commercial grade but much better than the average home equipment. Very stable and easy to put together. High quality nuts and bolts don't strip and hold it together tightly. Since it came with pullup and dip bars, I'm able to get rid of my seperate chin/dip station giving me more room. The dip bar is great! Since it projects from wide to narrow you can always adjust the width of your dip. Free shipping adds to the deal. Although I don't need it, it looks like you can purchase additional pieces to make it a complete gym.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product but...., December 12, 2010

Excellent Rack for the price. Pretty easy to put together though instructions are just pictures. The dip bars are outstanding. The pull-up handles have a foam rubber coating that tends to slip a bit. Very sturdy construction. The one big 'but': do not purchase the P-LTO Lat Tower with this rack!!!! Though the adverstising suggests they go together they do not. Amazon shows the "purchase these two or three together today for...." and they are not compatible. I spent 8 hours modifying the two items to get them to fit. Not pleased!!

I've been weight training for several years now and it dawned on me a few months back that I only use a few pieces of equipment: power/squat rack, Olympic barbell, adjustable bench, and dumbbells.

With that, I set about researching various brands of equipment for each of those pieces.

The PowerTec WB-PR10 is an excellent rack. Amazon delivers it through a freight carrier (Ceva in my neck of the woods) and offloads it off of the back of a commercial truck. The two deliverymen set the two boxes in my garage and from there I started to assemble.

The individual pieces came well packaged and both boxes were intact. It can be assembled by one person (though you have to be extra careful when doing it solo) using nothing more than an adjustable wrench and a multi-grip plier. It would have gone faster if I had the proper socket for the bolts, but alas, I had to make do with what I had. Assembly took probably a bit over 1.5 hours.

The individual pieces felt quite substantial; nothing flimsy about it. Assembled, it was solid as a rock. I tested some dips, chin-ups, and pull-ups and never felt that the cage wobbled or felt unstable. Unlike other buyers, I did not have issues with the paint chipping on delivery. All of the paint was intact and it seems to be a durable finish (only time will tell).

The dip bars are very beefy and extremely stable once you have them on. The safeties are also very solid (though they can be a bit tricky to adjust) and have a nice, thick plastic padding on the top surface to protect the finish.

I researched various brands and models and ultimately settled for this one because of the dip bar and excellent price. I strongly considered the half-rack version, but I think in the end, the $150 and extra space is probably worth it for the safety when I lift without a spotter. I think it was a great purchase and a great value. It'll more than pay for itself in a few years time in place of my gym membership. I will miss some of the cable-based equipment, but I can always expand with the lat tower at some point. For now, I'm just glad that I can work out when I want without having to wait for the squat rack at my gym.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Inexpensive Rack, May 28, 2011

This review is from: Powertec WB-PR10 Workbench Power Rack (Yellow) (Sports)
I bought this rack a few months ago and I don't know if they replaced it with new model or what, but the pictures of what I think is the newer model don't really look any different. It took me a couple of hours or so to put it together by myself (not really recommended) and the construction is good enough for all the weights I could possibly lift. The rack also includes bars for doing pull ups and dips. I have also attached ab straps successfully. I gave it 4 stars because I found a weld missing from one of the safety bars. Although I think the bar will be strong enough without the weld, this type of thing should never make it past quality inspection. Also, there was rust on one of the chrome pieces from a poor chroming job and the rubber on the safety bars was cut crooked and looks kind of crappy. But the rack is otherwise solid and was the cheapest I could find of its type - others cost $600 on up. The yellow paint was applied pretty well but will show scratches easily where the hooks and safety bars are adjusted. I would recommend it for any home gym where you are not lifting astronomical amounts of weight.

I purchase the Power rack last week. The delivery was fast and it was well packed. There was no scratches on the boxes or the equipment. Took 2-3 to set up the Power Rack and Lat Tower. I'm a happy customer.
