This Review by Stephen J. Bodio appeared in Fly Rod & Reel, Nov/Dec. 1995
(Grand Junction, CO: Centennial, 1995: 96 pp. paperback) Four useful paperbacks. The most novel is William Black's Blue Chip Flies, another modest and innovative little book from Centennial Publications. What I like about it is how it explains, rather than lists, popular and useful flies; as the author says, "the kind of folks who become fly fishers tend not to approach life superficially, even its amusements." He talks about carrying enough flies for worstcase scenarios (enough good, proven flies, not just a random assortment ". . . of course the one that catches fish will soon be gone, just like the tastiest chocolates in the sampler.") He calls the Royal Wulff "Superfly" and the Woolly Worm a "plumber's helper." Not just for beginners; I'm keeping it. -- Publisher Comments
