Practical Dressage Manual,
By A Customer
This review is from: Practical Dressage Manual (Hardcover)
A condensed but informative book covering the basic gaits through upper level movements, also covers the riders aids and position, and a brief chapter on competition. This book doesn't go into great detail but has good information in it for anyone interested in dressage. It outlines several exercises to develop the horse, and riders aids for movements are illustrated as if you are looking down on the horse. Written by a very experienced rider emphasizing the "art" of dressage. A good addition to any dressage library.

The title suits its name! This truly practical guide book is indispensible for anyone wanting to grasp the basics of dressage. The concepts presented in this book give clear illustrated examples of application of aids and resulting effects you want to achieve with your horse ( such as roundness, straightness, engagement, impulsion, proper bend, so forth). Various training exercises such as shoulder-in, lengthening, serpentines, travers, renvers, pirouettes, and other movements are briefly explained. It is a great book at showing anyone the basic language of the aids. It also very briefly introduces training principles, faults, and common corrections.
I got my first copy of this book when I was in pony club. It is a must have book for my collection even though I'm long past needing an introduction on dressage. It just has to be on my shelf :-) Ljungquist's book makes a fine first impression for any dressage enthusiast. |
