Thourough and Comprehensive Guide to Enochian,
By
This review is from: Practical Enochian Magick (Paperback)
Whether you merely find yourself curious about Enochian magick or you consider yourself an experienced Enochian mage, "Practical Enochian Magick" has something to offer you.
As an experienced occultist, I have always found much of the published work on Enochian obtuse and quite unapproachable. Many report feeling too intimidated by the complexity of the system to even begin exploring it. Dee and Kelley themselves did not explore the Enochian system in any practical way. I cannot recall any treatment of the subject more clear and accessible than "Practical Enochian Magick". I found all the descriptions, diagrams, and instructions quite valuable. I never considered exploring Enochian Magick as "easy" until now. Newcomb successfully made Enochian "workable". The dilettante and adept alike will find much value in this volume. You may be surprised to find yourself calling this book "the best Enochian book to come along", or it may not surprise you at all.

Excellent Practical Manual,
By Astraeus Peto (Rochester, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Practical Enochian Magick (Paperback)
Like Mr. Newcomb's previous books, this one is well written and to the point. It most definitely lives up to its title as an excellent "Practical" manual of Enochian magick.
In my opinion, the very things that seemed to put off the previous reviewer (Mr. Duvendack) help to make this book as good as it is. It is clear that this book was never intended as a rehash of historical material. There are certainly other books out there that detail the history and the "whys" of the Enochian system, and much of the original Dee/Kelley material is available on the Internet for those inclined in that direction. This book was intended as an easy to navigate guidebook for those who are looking to put the system to use; a sort of modern grimoire for the practicing Enochian magician. Existing students of the New Hermetics will certainly find this book to be a comfortable addition to the New Hermetics corpus, but anyone looking for a concise, practical to guide to the Enochian system should enjoy this book and find it very useful.

An actual method to Enochian Working,
By Ausar "Wadjet" (Co, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Practical Enochian Magick (Paperback)
Jason Newcomb has created a concise and quickly accessible work on Enochian Magick for the actual working occultist. If you want to only read books there are many available, but if you want to work the Enochian System in a safe and systematic manner than this is the book for you. The pronunciation guidelines given are alone worth the cost of the book. In conjunction with his other books or by itself this is a seminal work destined to change the face of Western Occultism. Newcomb has never been focused on the theory, his works give enough theory so that his readers can work the system. And the System works amazingly well. After reading this book you should have a solid understanding of Enochian Magick and the tools to work it effectively.

"Practical Enochian Magick" was really a blind purchase for me. I was familiar with the author from a couple of other books, but that's about it. The book itself is well bound and of good quality. However, the substance of the book is where the challenges lie. In the first part of the book, the author calls this book "reductionist", among other terms implying simplification. Of course, if you are someone that wants things simplified, then you'll love this book. However, if you are someone that likes to know the "whys" behind Enochian Magick, then don't waste your time. The author wrote this from the slant of his "New Hermetics" approach, which is simply a blend of NLP and other hypno-concepts combined with Hermetics.
In short, if you want a remedially written book about a complex subject, this book is for you! It skips the "whys", and gives you something cookie cutter to work with out of the box. If this is your thing, I highly recommend this book. If you prefer to know the "whys", and come at a complex subject like Enochian Magick in thorough detail, then skip this. The same author has a larger book entitled "Enochain Magick Toolbox" (or something similar). Perhaps this is the in-depth research and clarification that your average competent magician may be seeking, but "Practical Enochian Magick" is not your indepth coverage of Enochian: it is simply "reductionist" and "minimalistic". However, on a positive note, thank you Mr Newcomb for this book. After all, I can't say too much-I did buy it! LOL

Well put together & Original ideas on Enochian,

This review is from: Practical Enochian Magick (Paperback)
Practical Enochian Magick is a very good Enochian book & I am glad that i have it. A few points that makes this book so good is 1. Clear & precise directions for how to Call upon each individual Angel. 2. Great Tables & Diagrams. 3. Some of the most interesting & practical commentary about the Enochian Aethyrs & again a few nice diagrams about such. 4. Gives needed 'preliminary' exercises such as the pentagram rituals 5. He actually gives clear instructions about the usually vague application of the 'Heptarchic Hierarcy' 49 good angels associated with the planets. 6. Finally the Enochian Calls. he gives them in normal English but also to my great enjoyment gives the Phonetic translation so its smooth & easy to read. To end this is a good book but 90% practical. It would be best for the Magi that has some previous knowledge of more simple occult techniques, because this is actually a very advanced book getting directly into the good stuff.
