5.0 out of 5 stars Already implemented AS9100
Our Quality Manager was very pleased with this book. Even though we have already implemented AS9100, the simple way it presents the requirements of each element makes it a very good starting place for auditing and improving.
The conciseness of this book is a very big benefit.

Where do you begin reviewing this book? Let me summarize it for you. Imagine the AS9100B standard, with the 9102 audit questions. That's pretty much it.

Where do you begin reviewing this book? Let me summarize it for you. Imagine the AS9100B standard, with the 9102 audit questions. That's pretty much it.

The book purports to be a practical guide, but in reality, it just re-states each section from the standard, then adds a section called "internal audit questions" that are just that, and finally, a section called "management summary", which is supposed to be for top level managers, I assume. There is nothing in this book to help you.

Let me re-state that, just for emphasis. There is nothing, not the slightest thing, that will prove useful to you in this book.

I'm actually curious how the authors have not been sued by SAE, since the book is pretty much a 100% recycle of copyrighted material.

I had high hopes for this book. There simply aren't any books or resources to help with the transition from ISO to AS9100, and this book does nothing to help that situation. I had hoped to find it full of advice, but there isn't any. For example, Section 4.3 refers to configuration management. This is the entire advice for this section: "Required: A documented procedure. Remember, the procedure should simplify the configuration process. All design and contract reviews should feed into this process." I'll let that sink in for another moment. That is the sum total of words on configuration management. So, if, for example, you were expecting to actually learn some pros and cons of different methods, or perhaps, maybe just to learn what configuration management is, you were expecting too much.

Seriously, this book is a huge disappointment, and a total waste of your time. You'll have better luck on the forums of various quality websites asking questions.

1.0 out of 5 stars One or Both of These Authors is a Blithering Idiot., August 28, 2011
This review is from: A Practical Field Guide for AS9100 (Paperback)
I had hoped this book would actually be helpful to me, however, it most certainly was not. It is most unfortunate that trees had to be killed only to have this catashtophe of written work splashed across their pages.

Not as informative as I was hoping, the book doesn't go deep enough into the individual specifications. There are a few "slippery" areas in the spec where the wording could mean different requirements, depending on who was reading it, and thier background. I was hoping that this book would help clear up those areas, but it did not. I realize that this book is probably not intended to be a "tell all" for AS 9100, but it does clarify many of the specs, but not all of them. On the plus side, the book is better than most that are comparable in price.
