Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

This is an ideal guide for anyone planning to build a home. It combines the perspectives of a novice home builder and a corporate manager with 17 years of residential construction experience. It can (1) help make building your new home fun and exciting, (2)help you stay organized and in control, (3) help you make timely, informed decisions, and (4) help make your dream home a reality. The self-adhesive labels are a great idea! Set up an efficient filing system for all the documents, brochures, estimates, magazines, pictures, etc. you collect.

From the Author

Esther DiMarzio: I was so excited about building a new home a few years ago but felt anxious about all the decisions that we would need to make. I searched everywhere but could not find an appropriate checklist. During the building process, I kept volumes of notes, organized all the information I collected, and kept track of what we would have done differently. (Examples: (1) A hurried decision regarding the shape of our driveway cost us over $500 extra and we ended up with a wider driveway than we needed. (2) I wish we had had a niche built in the foyer.) With this wealth of information and the perspective of an average new home builder, I teamed up with Gail who has over 17 years of building experience. The result is an easy-to-follow guide I wish someone had handed me when we decided to build.

Gail Jacky: Decisions To Live With is a collaborative effort which addresses a definite need in the construction industry. Our guide offers explanations and suggestions which promote timely and informed decision making by the clients, thereby helping the general contractor maintain the building schedule and budget. More importantly, however, are the organization features which are designed to promote communication and cooperation between the client and the contractor, thereby making the building process more enjoyable for everyone.

This review is from: A Practical Guide To Building Your New Home: Decisions To Live With (Paperback)
What a horrible book. This book is nothing more than some poorly thoughtout lists. There is no substance to this book at all. If you have never built or bought a new home before, save your money, this book will NOT help you.
