This review is from: A Practical Guide to Costume Mounting (Hardcover)
If you're creating, displaying, fitting, or draping period clothing of any type, this book will help you create a dummy that will actually work for your garments. If you've ever tried to fit or display a true victorian corset over a hard ACME style dress form, you know that it's a waste of time. The tricks in this book make it clear and simple how to pad up a child-size dress form to the right dimensions and curves for an adult-size period form, how to make arms for a dummy, how to alter existing forms for different shoulder slopes, bust positions, and how to make many many types of crinolines and hoopskirts. If you're a stage costumer, there are lots of tips and tricks in here to making things look correct without the time and materials layout of full under-structuring. If you require that all of the structuring and supports be period accurate, this book will be less valuable -- but there are many other books that focus specifically on period-authentic detailing. This book is more general, but no less detailed. |
