Editorial Reviews

Review

"A Practical Guide to International Commercial Arbitration is a useful and helpful introduction to the process of international commercial arbitration. The documentation that appears in the footnotes is sparse but fully adequate to support the text. The commentary constitutes approximately one-half of the contents of the book; the remainder consists consists of appendices of documents that are of direct relevance to the text. The organization of the volume generally is good; the material is presented in an orderly fashion. Despite the multiplicity of authors, the style and approach are unitary throughout the various segments of the work.
Thomas E. Carbonneau, Moise S. Steeg Jr. Professor of Law, Tulane University

"This text offers a nuts-and-bolts survey of issues and options arising at all stages of an international commercial arbitration, ranging from the basic question of whether arbitration is an appropriate mode of dispute resolution for a given situation to the role and standards of conduct of the arbitrator and the enforceability, modification, and appealability of awards. The authors seek to provide both a useful introduction for novices and, to this end, do not assume any background in the area on the part of their readers. At the same time, the many basic texts included in the appendices make this text a ready reference guide for seasoned practitioners. The appendices contain the New York Convention, the Panama Convention, the UNCITRAL Model Law (with related Secretariat commentary) and Arbitration Rules, and the International Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Rules.
