4.0 out of 5 stars Practical for everyday health care professionals.
Personally, I impress the feature of this book. It is an intention of the authors to present Palliative medicine in a "light" - simple, concise. We could not expect comprehensiveness from this book since it was indicated "Practical guide" for " General Family Practice". Anyway, it could be better if there are additional reading references for more details. By conclusion,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Light In information
Mainly just lists of information and a lot of the lists are so basic as to be devoid of useful information. Might provide a nice reference source but too much information is lacking to make it a good review source. I am studying for a board exam and basically found the book worthless.

By conclusion, this book is nice, at least in clinical part, for who provide end of life care but not yet experts.

3.0 out of 5 stars Palliative Care Book Review, October 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Practical Guide to Palliative Care (Hardcover)
This book looks as though it is very detailed and has alot of information to tell you about palliative care and hospice care. Yet, when you read it you notice it is not very detailed and only has bulleted points. It seems to be more general in its approach to palliative care and does not address many of the questions and answers that most are seeking when they read a book of this caliber.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an outstanding book! Concise but simple., August 12, 2010
This review is from: A Practical Guide to Palliative Care (Hardcover)
I checked this book out from a large University Medical Library that has dozens of books on palliative care. This was by far the best. Other books are comprhensive and would takes weeks to months to read. This book is concise and simple. Very practical information for physicians and nurses. They cover most of the important topics and then put it into a "nutshell," rather than a bunch of drawn out details that that don't provide much further help.

I am gathering information about palliative care to promote the idea of requiring all health care workers to become certified in palliative care (similar to an advanced life support class). A study guide manual will have to be written. Once all health care workers are certified in palliative care, it will permit millions of patients with life-limiting diseases to receive competent palliative care no matter where they treated. As it currently stands, only about 2% of doctors and nurses are competent in palliative care, which causes terminally ill patients to receive their end of life care in the intensive care unit (ICU). Not only is this an inhumane way to treat terminally ill patients, it is a waste of hundreds of billions of dollars per year (in the USA) in health care costs.

This review is from: A Practical Guide to Palliative Care (Hardcover)
This book is very deficient in many aspects of palliative Medicine. It might be good for a nursing or medical student, but if you are looking for a comprehensive book, that this is not the one for you. I was very disappointed. The writers have made the chapters too short to be any informative.
