About the Author

Viki Mason spent more than 15 years in Search & Rescue/Mountain SAR in California and Baja California; more than 22 years tracking (man) and teaching tracking to many law enforcement agencies and personnel, SAR personnel, correctional officers (CA and AZ), and individuals and group leaders in the wilderness; and taught evasive tracking to Navy SERE instructors. She spent 6 months in the Antarctic as a field assistant; is an expert and instructor in wilderness survival, home safety and disaster preparedness.

Other experience includes currently 11+ years as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff, Orange County; 16 years with Disaster Services of the American Red Cross, Rio Hondo Chapter, coordinating ongoing mass care efforts, assisting in several major disaster relief operations, most recently spent 4 weeks in New York working at ground zero-Respite 1.

Wilderness safety educator since 1974; taught more than 41,000 elementary school children, primarily in Orange County, CA.
