By A Customer
This review is from: Practical Guide to Transfusion Medicine (Paperback)
If your having trouble understanding blood banking and a need a good intro book to the basic principles of transfusion medicine and blood banking this book is it. Not only is it easy to understand, it is pleasurable and an easy book to read. As a pathology fellow, I urge any resident who is involved in clinical pathology and blood banking to grab a copy. It will make your life a lot easier.

This book provides current and relevant information to the bench technologist, resident physician and practicing clinician. It's a great review for the Blood bank portion of the Clinical Pathology Board exam as well as a resource for lectures or everyday problems in immunohematology and transfusion medicine.BUY IT!!

If you are just doing your CP rotations for pathology, or are interested in going into Transfusion Medicine, this is a great book. It is a 'fundamentals' book that gives you the basics, but in a very comprehensive way. It's not dense at all, you can read it on the go and in little chunks. I also used it as a reference book for blood bank call. You are, of course, going to need another reference book, but it's a good ice-breaker to BB for pathology residents (or anyone else for that matter). I highly recommend this book.

What you need to know for CP boards.,
By Steve Gauerke (Fairfax, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Practical Guide To Transfusion Medicine, 2nd edition (Paperback)
A readable resource with 99% of what you need to know for CP boards (plenty), and also an excellent resource for calls from the blood bank and CP lecture preparation.Things like weak vs. partial D, McLeod phenotype, transfusion reactions, platelet refractoriness, antigens that cause HDN and their severity, etc. - it's all in there in an easy-to-read format (as opposed to the AABB tech manual!). Important/key concepts are emphasized in the margin. My only (somewhat minor) complaint is the length of the 2nd edition. It is considerably thicker than the first, but still "practical."

Two things make me unhappy with this purchase. 1. the book doesn't look like a new book as it was advertized although I paid for new. It has crease in the cover page and coffee-like stain at the bottom of many pages; 2. it took over 2 weeks to ship it to me.
