Book Description

March 1997
Today's rapidly changing Web technologies make it more and more difficult for on-line enterprises to keep up with their competitors. That is why now more than ever developers need fast solutions - provided by tools like JavaScript - to take control of this technological boom. "Practical JavaScript Programming" is the ideal guide for programmers who are short on time and want to harness the power and versatility of JavaScript.

Netscape's JavaScript is one of the hottest Web scripting languages available. JavaScript allows Web developers to create both server- and client-side applications quickly and easily. With "Practical JavaScript Programming," newcomers and veterans alike can get up and running quickly with code examples they can cut and paste into their own programs for professional results in minutes. Inside, readers will find practical applications that can be used to enhance their Web pages while saving countless hours of programming. The book walks readers through every application so that they can start customizing them right away.

"Practical JavaScript Programming" also covers LiveWire and LiveConnect, advanced technologies that are proving very valuable for the professional Web developer. Programmers are shown not only how to access Java applets and plug-ins in their JavaScript programs but also how to create user interfaces that allow users to navigate, search, and update databases on-line.

2.0 out of 5 stars There are many other books that are better than this one, August 10, 1999

This review is from: Practical Javascript Programming (Paperback)
I bought this book about a year and a half ago and have started and re-started reading it 4 or 5 times. Each time, I quit reading due to frustration. I was hoping to teach myself JavaScript, but could not do it with this book. It is not clearly written and it contains numerous errors. Finally, I bought another book and have learned more in 2 weeks than I have in almost 2 years with this book! The only saving grace of this book is the CD that comes with it. There are plenty of sample scripts and programs that can be copied into your own HTML code. However, I found that these also contain errors as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is great!, January 21, 1999

This review is from: Practical Javascript Programming (Paperback)
There are so many books on JS today: its like trying to purchase the right shoe for all occasions. I know its hard, but I got lucky. The reason is that, I went to Reaz's lecture at the InternetWorld conference and convinced myself that I should get his book.

Just as he did a great job on this talk at the show, Reaz did an even excellent job with this book. I have to agree that I made a great choice. I learned all the practical information needed for my internet development project. I am pleased with the presentation of the book and I suggest that you spend your bucks in the right basket by purchasing this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wana Learn JavaScript, Buy This Book, January 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Practical Javascript Programming (Paperback)
I am very impressed with this book. I think the author did a great job on it. His secure site idea is a great one and helps to keep myself updated with the JS technology. I have cut and pasted lots of his code from the CD (the CD has over 100s of code as the author promises). The book does not talk about other technologies and explain JS syntax and examples in a very easy to understand manner. A must buy!!!
