There are many other books that are better than this one,

This review is from: Practical Javascript Programming (Paperback)
I bought this book about a year and a half ago and have started and re-started reading it 4 or 5 times. Each time, I quit reading due to frustration. I was hoping to teach myself JavaScript, but could not do it with this book. It is not clearly written and it contains numerous errors. Finally, I bought another book and have learned more in 2 weeks than I have in almost 2 years with this book! The only saving grace of this book is the CD that comes with it. There are plenty of sample scripts and programs that can be copied into your own HTML code. However, I found that these also contain errors as well!

There are so many books on JS today: its like trying to purchase the right shoe for all occasions. I know its hard, but I got lucky. The reason is that, I went to Reaz's lecture at the InternetWorld conference and convinced myself that I should get his book.Just as he did a great job on this talk at the show, Reaz did an even excellent job with this book. I have to agree that I made a great choice. I learned all the practical information needed for my internet development project. I am pleased with the presentation of the book and I suggest that you spend your bucks in the right basket by purchasing this.

I am very impressed with this book. I think the author did a great job on it. His secure site idea is a great one and helps to keep myself updated with the JS technology. I have cut and pasted lots of his code from the CD (the CD has over 100s of code as the author promises). The book does not talk about other technologies and explain JS syntax and examples in a very easy to understand manner. A must buy!!!

I am very fluent in HTML and right now I am laerning DHTML and CGI with perl. This book contains no helpfull information. This book is great if you want to buy a collectionof other peoples JavaScripts. Anyone who can type can make a book this dull. This book wasn't even worth the mouse click to buy it. If anyone is thinking about buying this garbage DON'T! By the way the only reason it has one star is because it doesn't go any lower.

Poor index. It's very hard to find things. The book tries to teach JavaScript by introducing Objects, Event Handlers, Functions, & Control Structures in a few brief table ref. style chapters. Then launches into several chapters of examples. I've tried the CD examples on IE3&4,NN3&4 and had trouble with almost every single one of them. Can't find anything in the book when I'm looking for references. No real advanced stuff here either. Save your Dough.

I am 13 years old and this is my fourteenth programming book. This would be a good book for the beginner, because it's one of the most accurate and well spoken books that I have read, but for the average programmer I would not advise this book. For offline programming, it's a good book but it did'nt give enough web-design tips.

My name is Mike Smalley. I am a 14 year old high school student from Bensalem High School in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. I have had some experience with HTML. I found this book to be an easy read. Having attended an HTML programming course in my neighborhood, I wanted to find out more about web development and possibly start a business. This book is great for someone who is Intermediate to Advanced in HTML, and is a superb reference for an aspiring web developer. Hats off to Reaz Hoque for a job well done!

This book will help you learn JavaScript the right way. I have spent hours with this book and now I have thought myself to because an excellent web master (if I say so myself). The CD is great, the secure site is nicely organized. I think everyone who wants to buy a book on JS, should buy this book.
