Having trained under his system since I was a little kid, it is great to see his teachings published. Great book with nice photos of each technique. Do not hesitate to buy this. Every martial artist should have this in their library.

This is an excellent text, with more than 200 pages of photographs displaying applications that combine techniques. Among the early chapters are discussions of combat ranges, telegraphs, striking and blocking. The chapter discussing the Warrior Mentality is particularly valuable (e.g., "respond with more ferocity when a loved one is threatened.").I considered a 4-star rating with: a) the absence of chapters for Defense against a Gun and Defense against a Club and Defense from the Ground; b) the medium-fidelity monochrome photographs; c) minimal discussion of the legal consequences of street defense - a controversial topic; and d) inadequate warnings about potential self-inflicted injuries resulting from the face punches and head butts that Johnny demonstrates - another controversial topic. However, this is a treasure chest of "down and dirty" applications that could save your life when you least expect an attack.

Decent, but not great...,
This review is from: Practical Kung-Fu Street Defense: 100 Ways to Stop an Attacker in Five Moves or Less (Paperback)
I'm glad I bought this used, because it's not worth the "new" price tag. The book itself gives a bit of useful beginner information and does ok in showing basics, though there are other books that do that and cost a bit less. What I really dislike about this book is how it tries to sell itself as a "realistic" self defense book and then goes on to show multiple encounters where the attacker makes one offensive move then stands there frozen while the author unleashes multiple strikes, kicks, ect. The camouflage kung fu uniform was also pretty gaudy, but that's just me.
