*****NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC loves this guide!

In 2007, National Geographic author and US Travel Authority Marybeth Bond came to Paris on one of our tours with her best friend and god-daughter and loved it! ... "Then she leveraged the business by writing a guidebook, Practical Paris (just released as an ebook from tapbookspublishing.com), and created shopping guides in app format (chicwalks.com). An explorer by nature, she still travels extensively (sometimes with her new Canadian husband), but the City of Light is her beacon: "Whenever I leave Paris, I feel this strong pang in my heart."

Submitted by ACanadianGuy, Ontario: Insider tip – if you are looking for an excellent guidebook on Paris, I can recommend Practical Paris by Karen Henrich of Nuit Blanche Tours. She’s a Canadian who has lived in Paris for several years and points out valuable insights usually not seen in other guidebooks.

Article Excerpt titled "Paris, France" (P. 36) by Marybeth Bond, Summer 2009 Issue

Last fall two girlfriends and I treated ourselves to a private shopping guide for one day through Nuit Blanche Tours. Karen, the author of Practical Paris (www.TapBooksPublishing.com) and founder, taught us how to find chic clothing at affordable prices. She knows how to find designer showrooms, off-the-beaten track boutiques and fashion-specific street markets. She introduced us to a great street "marche" in a residential section of southern Paris. The market is near the Convention Metro stop and operates in the street on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 9 AM to around 1 PM. Look for the stalls lining the streets selling food, flowers, clothes, shoes, bags and all sorts of things at very low prices.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I wrote "Practical Paris, Everything You Need to Know About Paris But Didn't Know To Ask" out of necessity. While operating my tour company, I found myself spending hours replying to email questions from tour visitors coming to Paris. The same questions were asked repeatedly, such as: "What's the best way to get from the airport? Should we take a hotel or rent an apartment and do you have any suggestions? What is the best area to stay in? What clothes should we bring?" And the list goes on! So I decided to answer these questions thoroughly by compiling the information into one handy guide that could be used as a reference. I also added a Useful Links webpage, with links to helpful resources compiled from numerous resources that are sorted alphabetically and that open to English versions of French sites wherever possible.

The most enjoyable part for me is that I wrote most of this guide in my favourite Parisian writing cafés sprinkled throughout the city. I know some writers would be too distracted in busy environments like this, however, I seem to thrive on it and find that creativity and the words just flow. Thanks for reading!
Karen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing resource August 20, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a fantastic resource for anyone planning a trip to Paris. I have lived in France, visited Paris numerous times and learned things that I didn't know about this wonderful city by reading Karen's book. It is very thorough, covers everything that any traveler absolutely needs to know about the city - how to get around on, where to eat, info about attractions that most tourists never hear about, how to save money and avoid paying outrageous fees, in short, all the things that I wish I had known while visiting Paris!
The ebook version is perfect as a take-along resource that you can consult at any moment during your travels. Sit at a lovely café, sipping your kir royal or café au lait, while you decide where to go next. This book makes any trip to Paris more enjoyable, relaxing and fun. Bon voyage!

2.0 out of 5 stars Short and maybe not too accurate? June 3, 2012
By Ncoop
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Just read this in an afternoon (it's pretty short) and after having read dozens of travel guides in preparation for my trip to Paris, I have to say I was surprised at how many suggestions were made that contradict other guide books and info found on sites such as trip advisor. For example, they recommend the Paris Pass, with no explanation regarding the fact that this is actually a metro pass and the museum pass sold by a business under the name "Paris Pass" I've read (on trip advisor) that a lot of people who purchased this pass felt they were misled as to what is it, and this book did not explain what it was but perpetuated the myth that is some sort of unique "pass." It's not. Since I've not yet made my trip to Paris, I don't know if the other recommendations are accurate or not, but I do know that they are not in agreement with other the advice that is available regarding Paris and I've read a lot. I'd be cautious about completely trusting the advice in this book. I have enjoyed Rick Steve's Paris as well as Sixty Million French Men can't be Wrong (not really a guide book but gives good insight into the French culture). This book also pushes the author's other book on shopping in Paris - a lot! So if you want to buy a book that tries to sell you another book, this is it. But I'll be avoiding this author in the future.

"I was so thrilled to discover this book because even though we've been to Paris many times, we still seem to stumble around and usually end up discovering important things after we return home! There are so many great tips and resources in this book and it's all in one convenient place, thank you!!"
