5 of 6 people found the following review helpful By Addie Anderson on November 25, 2013
Format: Hardcover
This book is not about philosophy and sport. Rather it is about Kretchmar's philosophy of sport. It's essentially a propaganda piece, consisting of Kretchmar's arguments to justify a career in kinesiology. He even goes so far as to redefine "intelligence" so that shooting basketball well is viewed as the intellectual equal of advanced calculus. It reads like the self-justifying ranting of someone who has gotten little respect in academia, and is tired of real scientists thinking they're better than him.

I'm a little bitter because I had to read the whole thing for class.

If someone is already versed in philosophy it might make a good read, there are lots of arguments to pick apart. But if someone is new to philosophy, this book will leave them less informed than they were before reading it.

This book is awful. If it's not required for a class don't waste your time.
