I ordered this book, as my husband and I are daysailors, looking to expand into more coastal and long distance cruising. This is a great book for any sailor. So much information on all topics concerning a boat, from outfitting and rigging a boat, to anchoring etc. The Dashews have so much knowledge to share, and the book is very well laid out with a good index and chapter headings. Highly recommended!!

Practical Seamanship : Essential Skills for the Modern SailorA comprehensive book on seamanship written by a couple that have put thousands of sea miles under the keel. Covers all of the essentials with hands on advice. A good reference and a read from cover to cover. I have several of the popular texts on the subject, and this is the one to take on the boat with you. Steve Wilmington NC

As a cruiser, if you only buy one book, make it this one. Absolutely indispensable! I read the entire book before we set off on our Pacific crossing and was amazed at the number of times I drew on things gleaned from the book. I've just started reading it a second time as we are thinking about our next cruise and I can tell it's going to be just as valuable the second time around. The book can also be inspiring to anyone on the fence - it happens to be extremely well-written and easy to read considering how much information is packed into it.
