Frater UD is one of the premier Ceremonial Magicians in Europe. He is a master of Ceremonial and he is also a Chaos Magician. Many who are unfamiliar with him might be familiar with a concept he invented called "Ice Magick" .

Sigils or pictographic symbol of what we desire to obtain was first developed by Austin Osman Spare. He was an artist and he was educated by a witch at an early age. Being a bit of a rebel he tended to be a free thinker who definitely did not believe in conformity. He practiced practical magic that was free from dogma and tended to be about what work for the magician.

Sigil making is one of the corner stones of Chaos magick. The most common technique is to write out a statement of intent. IT is beneficial to start your state words like it is my will, This is my will or My desire is. You write out your statement and then cross out every other letter. Take the remaining letters put them together and make design. Once that part is completed you objective is to stare it in either a heightened state of frenzy or exhaustion so it can slip into the subconscious. After that you then destroy it by fire or by tearing it up

There are two other types of sigils. The second type is the picture sigil. THis involves taking known glyphs and combining them to make a new design. There making and execution are the same as the first typen of sigil. The third type of sigil involves taking a statement of intent crossing out the duplicate letter adn then making a new gibberish phrase or some word of power. This said aloud and over and over again until it makes no sense or produces a sense of stupification. THen it disolves in your mind.

Frater UD goes further into Austin Osman Spares philosophy by discussing he alphabet of desire.

This book is superb, and it is a travesty that something so groundbreaking is out of print. Frater U.D. has performed a great service in making Austin Osman Spare's works comprehensible to the average magickal practitioner, such as myself. All one needs for this type of magick is a pen and paper, as well as the desire to perform a five-second ritual to implant one's wish into one's subconscious. And I haven't even mentioned the fascinating Alphabet of Desire! It is fair to say that this publication has changed my entire way of thinking about magick and mental processes. Believe me, in case of fire, this book is what I would save first.

Practical Sigil Magic by Frater U.D. is a book for people interested in achieving results. It is forthright, intelligently presented and does not meander from its objective.
All in all, the book is rather scarce, and expensive. However, upon acquisition one quickly discovers that it is very much worth whatever the price tag that accompanied it. The rich fullness of information contained within its pages is not to be found on the web.
With that in mind, upon reading the book and putting its teachings into practice, it becomes quite obvious why PSM is so sought after, and why it is unlikely that it will ever be reprinted - it was never intended for the eyes of the masses; indeed, giving this book to the unprepared would be closely equivalent to giving handgrenades to toddlers.
If you are seeking a book that will supply you with a small but very versatile range of relatively simple but exceedingly potent techniques, showing you how to quickly and easily access and alter both your own innermost being and the fabric of your local reality field, look no further. Practical Sigil Magic delivers completely.
As for obtaining a copy of PSM, watch eBay for it. Practical Sigil Magic has gone for as little as $65 for a good clean copy (moon waning, well after full), and for greater than $250 when the moon is waxing to full.
Understanding that, if you are serious about acquiring power and knowledge, you will get yourself a copy of this book. It is indispensable.

Format: Paperback
This book should be considered as one of THE books on sigil magic. Intended for both the seasoned magician who wants to learn sigil magic and the complete beginner who is just starting out, this book yields results FAST. In fact, the techniques in this book are so efficient and so potent its scary. Any idiot, even the complete dabbler can apply these techniques and get results, no training required.
What makes sigil magic so interesting is that it shows sorcery at its most bare bones. The problem is that one cannot stay with sigil magic as it is presented in this book, because it is spiritually barren. The next step will be to read books like "Hands on Chaos Magic" by Andrieh Vitimus, and "Stealing the Fire from Heaven" by Stephen Mace.
In the final analysis, this book is not so so much a book for the spiritual seeker, as it is for those who want powerful results in the physical world with no training whatsoever.

If you're new to the subject Practical Sigil Magic is a good place to start. If you already know how to do sigil magic you'll probably find this book redundant. On second thought, you might find a few ideas here that you never thought of before (this author has a habit of doing that). Good, clear information. The book should have been called Sigil Magic for Dummies.
