4.0 out of 5 stars Practical Soirituality: The Spiritual Basis of Nonviolent Communication
This short book is a good synopsis of Rosenberg's book Nonviolent Communication; I liked the format, which includes questions to the author regarding how to use NVC in relationships of a more spiritual nature. Also, Rosenberg shares his own spirituality behind this method of communication. A good little book to refer to on a regular basis.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I admit I had high expectations for this book after having read The Surprising Purpose of Anger by the same author. However, unlike that book which is at the same time accessible and profound, this book is repetitive and trite. The entire point of the conversation (it's in question and answer format) is that within everyone is a "blessed divine energy" that is only...

I would recommend that you read "The Surprising purpose of Anger", first. Especially if you are jaded, been through therapy, recovery, or self help. You will be stunned to find the gift of Non-violent communication. I have read almost all of the other books by Marshall B. Rosenberg. This is the last one I read. I plan to purchase to send to all of my friends that are anti-religion. It shows the morality of what religions should teach. I have always said I am not a religious person, but a very spiritual person. This book shows the upper path of living. An addict once said "Every person has a hole in their being and it is the same size as a high power. If you do not find spirituality you will need to fill that hole with something; drugs, food, possessions or something else".

I admit I had high expectations for this book after having read The Surprising Purpose of Anger by the same author. However, unlike that book which is at the same time accessible and profound, this book is repetitive and trite. The entire point of the conversation (it's in question and answer format) is that within everyone is a "blessed divine energy" that is only accessed when we allow ourselves to experience feelings and needs, both our own and other people's, without judgement or evaluation. There are better explorations of how to do this in Rosenberg's other books. I can't help but 'judge' that this book is geared toward the new age crowd that likes to have practical advice sugar coated in mystical language, as if simply calling something "blessed" and "divine" somehow automatically elevates both the message and the reader.

This tiny little book contains the spiritual connection that is the basis of non-violent communication. If I ever had a list of essential reading, this book would be on it. Speaking PeaceSpeaking Peace is a great audio book is you want an audio companion to non-violent communication. Practical Spirituality: The Spiritual Basis of Nonviolent Communication (Nonviolent Communication Guides)Recommended for everyone. Marshall Rosenberg should win the Nobel Peace Prize for this concept in action.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you don't know what is spirituality then read it :), December 21, 2011

I got curious about this book since I had read the basic book from Rosenberg and had felt it so transforming that ther should be something more inside his teachings. And this book on spirituality revealed it. In fact by practicing NVC we can create a better world and it helps to unveil the compassion and love that we all have and share. I also appreciated is very simple understanding of spirituality, without any religious views and the like.

It is hard to think and believe that Marshall Rosenberg's NVC framework and knowledge could point to such a simple direct connection to the spiritual side of life . . . it does. I highly recommend this book if upon reading other NVC materials or reviewing the YouTube videos, your intuition is pointing to the underlying spirituality of NVC. This book makes clear what you sensed.

I really wish I had learned of this as a teen. Excellent.
