I am a mines and SCR rig electrician. I have actually attended Malcolms seminar related to the subject matter and, in fact, i have 3 copies of the book; that's how often i use it.
The information will open up the modern world of AC drives for the novice. For those applying the technology in the field such as, in mines, i thoroughly recommend it.
There are useful appendices in areas that compliment the knowledge required in heavy industry (the Gray scale in rotary encoders) areas of expertise that we must know and i can assure you that i have not been able to find that information anywhere else, or so tactfully presented.
I have assisted electrical engineers to understand the subject through the knowledge that this manual provides the technician.
Malcolm is definitely "the man" and his book is an absolute essential item - the bible - for heavy industrial electricians.

I refinanced my house twice, sold my daughter into white slavery and took several jobs as a medical guinea pig to afford this book. If I told you even a tenth of what I have learned so far from it, your brain would literally dissolve. I have since learned the secrets of telekinesis, complete appetite control, and the ability to breathe underwater. Highly recommended.

To my opinion gives this book a clear and understandable overview of variable drives and emphasises the things which are important. After red this book one get not only a good overview of variable drives, but also one is able to give the drives the wright place belong other drive issues

Who knew that reading one book could be the equivalent of getting an Electrical Engineering Degree!!! Of course its 41x10^3 dollars, that's about how much a degree cost these days! Of course they should add the disclaimer that it does not come with 4 years of booze, college chicks, and pot. Well, it is just a book.

When I bought my Kindle I had a hard time getting the wife to buy off on a $400 e-book reader. It really ticked me off, so wait till she sees the bill for the $41,000 book I just bought.

Overall, the book is well worth the money. I am meeting up with Lex Luthor for drinks at the Palms to discuss Chapter 14 and our plans to use a Variable Speed Drive to drill to the earth's core to release millions of cubic feet of noxious gases into the atmosphere to blackmail the US into paying us millions...I mean billions of dollars.

IT PAYS FOR ITSELF!!!!

This should be called electric variable speed drive because it has a very poor coverage for the mechanical variable speed drives.

I guess it is the author's own background is limited to the electric field otherwise he won't be so innocent of rich field of the mechanical variable speed drives:
the epicyclic gearsets, the differentials, the linkages, the geneva mechanism, and so on.

You should know what you don't know!

Like Theodore, I did everything possible to afford this book. When selling my plasma led me nowhere, I was forced to become a drug mule :(

Eventually I downloaded it on my Kindle, and was rather disappointed. I am not able to melt things with my eyes, but the telekinesis powers that Theodore mentioned were nowhere to be found. I then noticed my book did not fully download, and that I was missing that chapter. Mega bummer.

When I initially saw the price, I had a hard time justifying it. But after seeing all it's done for my fellow reviewers (and debtors), how could I have said no?

One click later, and my acne cleared right up, I have a full 2 inches more where it counts (if yaknowwhattImean), and the Job I have been hoping for but have done nothing to earn has finally landed in my lap!

Now I can afford to begin my life again, oops, times up at the internet cafe

WOW, I did not know professional books could cost more that a REALLY NICE CAR!!!!

Logically speaking this is not an error..! trust me im an engineer..!
becasue if this was a mere european/american confusion on the decimal seperator to be either a comma or period in the amazon submit form; then you wouldnt have "916" after the comma in "41,916.00" you'd have 2 digits only.. however having a comma after 2 digits is not correct input either..
so the guy delibertaly put the comma there as a thousands seperator..

this book will make you fly and turn your arms in to traction beams for beer cans.. trust me im an engineer..!
