tight, energenic, funky fun,

This stuff sounds like it's straight outta the 70's. It's very much in the spirit of the James Brown groovefests like "Superbad" and "Sex Machine." If anything, the imitation is a little too spot on. The superfluous grunts, exclamations, and exhortations can come dangerously close to parody in spots-- but they stop just short of that, I think, and so the record does succeed as a genuine homage, and a genuine good time in its own right.
