I just passed my ANCC today and here are some books I wish I had in school. The following four books helped me to pass the ANCC because they are most like the test. First, Margaret Fitzgerald's book Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination and Practice Preparation is a great must have book for school and test prep. If you can, take her live seminar or get the CDs. Next Leik's book Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Intensive Review:Fast Facts and Practice Questions, great book, good to synthesize all of the Fitzgerald info. The Hollier/Wirfs book: Certification Prep Exams Practice Test s and Questions with Rationales 4th ed is a great prep for questions, don't bother buying the review book by Hollier, it is too basic. Next, make SURE you buy the Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review by Zerwekh and Claborn. This is the only review book I could find that has a CD rom . The CD is almost like the actual test and some of the questions are very similar. If you start off by buying these four books you will be in good shape. Good luck on the exam!

I passed the Family Practice exam and this book was a great help! She knows how to present the right amount of appropriate information to make it useful rather than overwhelming. The summaries and tables were a big big help. I would also recommend this as a review book for anyone who just wants to brush up their basics for clinical practice.

This was by far the best review book I purchased. I read 3 other review books. The set-up was extremely helpful: practice questions followed by discussion.

By far the best tool I used to prepare for the exam and pass successfully. It condenses large amounts of information for an effective review, and includes new information I had not been exposed to while in school.

A great resource, I used this book, combined with the fitzgerald CD review set and the workbook that comes with the CDs, and passed my AANP FNP exam on the first try! So many of the questions from the review material were present almost word-for-word on the exam, especially in the hemology, women's health and pediatric sections, I felt so well prepared! My only complaint with this book is that sometimes it gives TOO much info relating to particular areas, and sometimes too little, to the point where a few questions were confusing until I used other resources to answer my doubts!

This was a well organized review book. The content reflects the entry level knowledge that is expected to be on the FNP exams. I wish there was a CD with practice questions to go along with it. I also have her audio CD's and they work great together!

In comparing the review books, you are given the impression that this is all you need to review. Therefore I chose this because of all the high reviews. If you are taking the ANCC FNP exam, I suggest you purchase other resources. Many of the review books, including this one, don't cover professional roles & policies, NP/pt relationship & research. It is very difficult to find a review book that has all topics thoroughly covered. Even ANCC's review manual does not completely cover what is on their test. Don't be misled into thinking this one review book will do it all for you.

I thought that this was a pretty good review. I liked that short reads then the questions, it helps to use the information as soon as possible and to do it in short chunks. It is worth the time and effort. My advice is to know your cardiac. Things like "what abnormal heart sound can you hear in an axilla?", and the difference between mitral valve prolapse sounds and mitral regurgitation. You get the hint.

I highly recommend this review guide for the NP cert. exam. It is comprehensive and also includes practice questions. After reading it, I took the exam and passed!

I recently took the ANCC Family Nurse Practitioner exam and passed on the first try. I used this book during my studies... it is very well written with questions on a subject area with a discussion of the subject area following the questions. There were many questions that were verbatim on the exam. I would highly recommend this book! It is also a good resource for use while in practice. Happy Studying!!!
