Book Description

May 25, 2007
This is not your standard guide to Prague. Rather, it aims to fill an important niche in the existing tour book market. Beginning with insights drawn from her 14 years living in Prague, Feldman spent a year personally visiting hotels, boutiques and restaurants as research for the book. The result is an unconventional insider's guide to the best Prague has to offer from the perspective of a self-professed shopping expert. ('Look, everyone has a skill set; apparently mine includes locating, and spending money, on fabulous finds,' she intones in the book's introduction.) Written in a conversational, first-person style, Prague: Artel Style includes ideas for uniquely Czech items to buy, and offers practical tips not often found in traditional guidebooks from off-the-beaten-path dining destinations to which rooms to ask for at hotels. Complemented by vintage images and Bethca didn t know facts, the book embodies quirky (but chic) Artel style. Most recently, the book was recognized by the 12th annual Independent Publisher Awards with a gold medal in the organization s Travel Guidebook category.

"As a native of Prague, I am flattered that this book shows tourists such an original, honest and humorous vision of my city. About the Author

Karen Feldman is a native of New York and has lived in Prague for 12 years. At the age of 29 she began the luxury crystal company, Artel Glass. Now, eight years later, she is delighted to be working with industry giants such as Rolls-Royce, Barney's Japan, and Paul Smith. This quirky shopping and travel guide was born of Karen's love of her adopted city and the angst she feels when people say there's nothing to buy in Prague.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prague: Artel Style, February 19, 2008
This review is from: Prague: Artel Style (Paperback)
The changes in Prague since 1990, when we were last there, are utterly amazing and somewhat overwhelming, although not surprising -- Prague was fantastic to visit in 1990, even though it was not yet quite geared up to receiving visitors. We were fortunate on the second day of our second (2007) trip to find Karen Feldman's little guidebook. It is absolutely terrific! As a native of North America but a longtime resident of the city, she has an excellent sense of the kinds of things that "anti-tourist" tourists will find interesting. Her summaries and descriptions are well written, and the book is well laid out and easy to use. As a guidebook author myself, I think I know a good guide when I see one! I only wish we'd known about it before we got there. Buy it and enjoy -- it's the next best thing to an actual visit and indispensable for a real visit.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Never Be The Same Again, October 29, 2007
This review is from: Prague: Artel Style (Paperback)
Do EVERYTHING Karen Feldman says. Go on a hunt for the best streudel in the world. Experience the Old Jewish Cemetary from the bathroom window at the Museum of Decoraive Arts. Ride the Pater Noster. Buy the coolest fashions direct from the designers for 1/10 the price in the US. You will never be the same again (isn't that the point of travel in the first place?)

I have to agree with the other reviewers...this book is a gem! One of the best guide books I've ever read. Useful, funny, and engaging style. Leaving for Prague in October, and this is the only guide book I'll need. Highly recommend!
