Product Description

Family farms in Iowa provide the exceptionally fresh milk that forms the backbone of Prairie Breeze's smooth, grassy flavor. Prairie Breeze is characterized as a hybrid between cheddar and the Alpine-style of Emmental cheeses. Yet it has nutty tones and a savory finish that distinguish it from all other cheddars. It's this interplay on the palate that keeps you reaching for "just one more" taste of this unique cheese. Although drier in texture than cheddar, it still melts well when you're looking to add a subtle nuance to your culinary endeavors. Milton Creamery, located in the Village of Milton, nestled in the rural countryside of Southeast Iowa, is where the Musser's, Rufus, Jane and Galen, find joy and fulfillment in their chosen occupation - handcrafting artisan cheeses.

The Mussers use high quality milk with no added RBST, produced on small Amish farms in the surrounding area to make an elite line of specialty cheese. Local farmers use time-honored methods, such as grazing in season, hand milking, and cooling the milk in bulk tanks. The Mussers bring the fresh milk into the plant, pasteurize it and make small batches of cheese using a special blend of cultures and a labor-intensive process for unique flavorful cheeses. The result is an array of artisan cheeses to tempt any appetite. Gute appetite!

I came here to purchase after seeing a cheddar taste test on America's Test Kitchen. Price per pound is very affordable compared to artisanal cheeses in the market but the cost to ship is outrageous. No sale.

was the winner of their taste test, but this price for shipping is outrageous. I gave three stars as not to tip the balance either way. If I come across it in the supermarket, I will purchase and update.

Dont waste your money. Cabot extra sharp from Vermont is comparable and at least 1/4 of the cost. You can find it in your local grocery store too.

Available at all three of my local co-ops, priced higher, but not near what comparable artisan cheeses are, and *much* less than listed here with shipping.

This is no Vemont cheddar. It cuts fairly brittle, but bites smooth. One uniqu-itude is its salt crystals. It's parm-like that way, but it's much creamier, and definitely more complex. This one is an adventure in pairing; put three wines out and you'l swear you're eating three different cheeses. My fav is with a nice bitter/hoppy beer ( before bed...).

You won't 'wow' your snobby friends with it, but you'll win over the real connoisseurs. It's European craft embedded in the Midwest.

Seriously, you have to do a pairing test. Way fun!

I really liked this cheese. It has a fruity taste. Good with wine and cheese parties. However, it is very expensive and I wanted to try it. However I will go back to Cabot extra sharp cheddar because of the cost.
