Pretty Good Soundtrack & DVD,
By tjcrewsbooks (Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Prairie Home Companion Original Motion Picture Soundtrack [Deluxe Limited Edition CD + DVD] (Audio CD)
The Soundtrack from the film Prairie Home Companion is superb.
The tracks aren't in the same order as they occurred in the film, but must have been a bit rearranged for balance and listenability. You don't have to see the movie to enjoy the soundtrack, and if you've seen the film, it's even better. I found myself wanting to applaude after several of the pieces during the film, but didn't want to seem like an amateur, nor did I wish to startle the old folks sitting in front of me; pieces such as "Gold Watch and Chain" by Streep and Keillor, "Frankie & Johnny" by Lohan, "Old Plank Road" by Robin & Linda Williams, "Coming Down From Red Lodge" by the Guys All-Star Shoe Band, and "Bad Jokes" by Harrelson and Reilly are the most memorable. The film had all the great music I could have hoped for except for the omitted "Powdermilk Biscuits Theme." C'mon, GK---how do you expect to win the Oscar for Best Picture when you leave out the theme for Powdermilk Biscuits? Jeeze, Louise! The DVD included with the Soundtrack is a real Bonus! The highlights are Keillor's Catchup monolog, and the pieces played by the Guys All-Star Shoe Band: they are an outstanding group of extrordinarily talented and versatile musicians, a pleasure to watch and a joy to listen to!

I don't write many reviews but I just have to say that I love this soundtrack. I enjoy listening to the real radio show when I get the chance and this cd is very much like that show. :) I especially like the song "Bad Jokes".

Great Soundtrack,

This soundtrack is an excellent piece on it's own and captures the classic sound of the Prairie Home Companion show. The performances are great and the accompanying DVD offers some exceptional moments from the film.
I was also able to import the Music into Itunes on my Mac without any problems. The songs sound great on my I-Pod.
